Five-star QB intrigued by Alabama (BamaOnLine-VIP)
quote:

Bryce Young

“Talk probably the most with Bama, Oregon, Miami a little bit and Oklahoma... But as of now I’m still committed. I was at SC a few days ago, still love it there... people keep telling me with the process to take your trips and see everything, so I’ll probably do that... I’ve known Coach Sark for a long time... Really he’s just telling me how he feels like I can fit in the offense... I’ve seen Tua a lot, love his game, I love how they play. It’s really intriguing to me... It’s always great keeping relationships up. But for me right now I’m really just focused on SC.”

Five-star Young leads Premium to Adidas National Championship (247Sports)
quote:

TAMPA, FL -- Premium Sports wins the Adidas 7-on-7 National Championship with USC 5-star QB commit Bryce Young completing a 40-yard touchdown pass with no time left on the clock, before splitting two defenders with a dart on the ensuing two-point conversion to beat California rival Ground Zero all the way on the other side of the country in the Sunshine State.

Adidas hosted 32 of the best 7-on-7 teams in the country and Young and company stayed poised as they trailed Ground Zero every time the offense took the ball but always had an answer to bring home the hardware in a 29-28 victory.

“Bryce Young is the best quarterback in the country,” Premium founder Malik James said of the All-American who is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 dual-threat passer in the country. “All he does is win. Since I’ve know Bryce since the seventh grade I haven’t seen too many losing moments for him.”

Young and company knocked off Midwest Boom in the quarterfinals, a team full of standouts from Chicago/St. Louis before beating Hustle Inc. who is loaded with Georgia talent in the semifinals. Ground Zero's road to the finals including beating Team Tampa and then Team 808 out of Hawaii before the showdown with Premium.

While Young was terrific all weekend, he had a bevy of weapons led by four-star Alabama commit Traeshon Holden, who was absolutely dominant in the red zone leading the team in touchdowns over the two-day extravaganza.

Traeshon Holden

“Dominant is a great word,” Young said. “Big, fast, really strong, I think his frame gives him a lot of advantage over DBs. He’s definitely one of the better guys I’ve ever played with. That ability to go up and get the ball, run good routes has strong hands."

“Traeshon is awesome,” James added. “Cramped all day, his first-ever 7-on-7 event, his body isn’t used to that. He came through for us when we needed him.” (more)

Under Armour Atlanta: Top Performers (247Sports | segments)

Chris Morris

ROSWELL, GA -- The annual talent-laden Atlanta stop in the Under Armour All-America camp tour was again stacked Sunday at Roswell High School as the areas best braved the cold and rainy conditions this morning. The sun eventually came out and it turned out to be a dry affair as many blue-chip recruits backed up lofty rankings all day long.

Here, 247Sports takes a look at the top performances on the day.

ALPHA DOG

In a close race between a few prospects, the nod goes to Top247 offensive lineman Chris Morris, considering he defeated another candidate in Desmond Evans to cap the one-on-one portion of the event (video above). Against the long and athletic Evans, Morris won with extension and athleticism. Evans countered with power and despite knocking the blocker off balance initially, he recovered in time to split the rep. The final battle between the two, as it got a bit rowdy, was won by Morris’ inside stab and redirection.

The Memphis (Tenn.) Freedom Prep Academy offensive tackle sits strong at 6-foot-4, 290 pounds with long arms and great movement skill. He can get depth in his pass set without much effort and has the punch to force a defender to get to his secondary move in a hurry. He keeps a low base and doesn’t shuffle his plane no matter the defender’s approach; a dominant day. More than 34 programs have offered but the Arkansas Razorbacks hold a pair of 247Sports Crystal Ball selections at this time.

NEXT FIVE OFFENSE

2. Javon Baker

The most polished route-runner on the afternoon, out of Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern, won routes at every stage Sunday. He was strong off of the line with a diverse release package, drove off of his initial move well with quickness and finished plays with great range and hands despite consistent contests. Baker is committed to Alabama.

4. Dacari Collins

Another class of 2021 prospect on the list, and another from McEachern, Collins scored more touchdowns than any pass catcher down the stretch of the event. His legit 6-foot-4 frame and long arms made it tough for defenders to make plays on the football even while in position to. Collins runs mature routes for his age and can push the secondary vertically as well. 20 offers are in for the rising-junior with Georgia, Alabama and Florida high on the list.

Camp Awards

Charlotte (NC) Mallard Creek linebacker Trenton Simpson, Phenix City (Ala.) Central wide receiver E.J. Williams, Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek two-way player Brian Branch and Wesley Steiner were invited to the 2020 Under Armour All-America Game following the event. Branch announced his intent to play in the game.

Hampton (Ga.) Dutchtown defensive end Will Anderson and Memphis (Tenn.) Freedom Prep offensive lineman Chris Morris were invited to the UA Bigs event this summer at IMG Academy.

Class of 2021 wide receiver Dacari Collins Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern and quarterback Brock Vandagriff Bogart (Ga.) Prince Avenue Christian were invited to participate in the prestigious Future 50 underclassmen camp in January.

News and Notes

Fellow 2021 prospect Chaz Chambliss, a linebacker at Carrollton (Ga.) High, was among the most fluid linebacker prospects through drills and in coverage. Despite being closer to 240 pounds or so, he moves like he is much lighter to the point he could be in line to occupy a hybrid front-seven role down the line. More than two-dozen programs have already offered the sophomore.

Georgia WR enjoys first trip back to T-Town as recruit (BamaOnLine-VIP)

2021 4* WR Dacari Collins 6-3.5/208 GA hudl

Collins visited Bama, along with his teammate Javon Baker, on Saturday. It was first Bama visit since attending youth camp. "I liked the coaches, the people and the environment. I was really impressed with Coach Wiggins. He’s a really good coach. As I talked to Coach Saban, he said he was very impressed with my size, strong hands and great catching radius. They said I have great character and they want me to come there." Baker has been recruiting Collins to Bama and they plan to return for A-Day. When asked if he make a decision today, he replied, "I could."

Bama commit Caden Clark stars at The Opening Regional Ohio (247Sports)
quote:

Caden Clark (4-star TE | Akron/Hoban) was clearly one of the top performers in Massillon on Sunday and he was much faster and athletic than we have seen in the past. There were no blocking drills for tight ends and this is a huge strength in Clark's game, but he used his speed to get open in passing drills and also used his body to out-muscle defenders for the football. Clark is known for work ethic and he continues to get better each year. He plays in a run-heavy offense and they blow people out weekly, so we rarely get to see him catch the football much in games, but he proved Sunday that he is a top-notch pass receiver in addition to being an excellent blocker.

RCS Midseason Report: Ranking the five biggest surprises (Rivals | segments)
quote:

The Rivals 3 Stripe Camp Series presented by adidas has reached its midway point so there’s no better time to take a look back at some of the standouts from across the country. Today we take a look at five of the biggest surprise performances so far.

Jalen Kimber (3-star CB | Mansfield, TX) has easily been one of the best defensive backs during the first half of the camp series as he had a phenomenal showing at the Dallas stop by knocking away numerous passes and generally being a complete nuisance for any receiver during one-on-one routes. Currently a three-star prospect, Kimber could easily make the case for a bump in the next rankings after his Rivals Camp Series performance. Colleges are taking notice, too, since the Mansfield (Texas) Timberview standout has been loading up on major offers recently and has been busy on visits.

Transferring Alabama DB Kyriq McDonald commits to AAC school (BamaOnLine)
quote:

A now-former Alabama player has found a new home in the American Athletic Conference. Defensive back Kyriq McDonald has committed to transfer to Cincinnati, according to Chad Brendel of Bearcat Journal.

McDonald entered the NCAA transfer portal in early February, along with long snapper Scott Meyer, and received offers from Florida State, Mississippi State, Louisville, Purdue and Memphis. However, Meyer is still on the Crimson Tide roster and practicing. McDonald visited Cincinnati on Thursday.

McDonald filled a role in the Alabama secondary and on special teams this past season after redshirting his first year in Tuscaloosa. He totaled seven tackles and a quarterback pressure through 11 games of action in his redshirt freshman campaign and was named one of the Alabama coaches’ special teams players of the week for his play against Mississippi State and Auburn.

McDonald was the No. 22 player in Alabama and No. 45 cornerback in 2017, per the 247Sports Composite. Alabama signed five defensive backs during the early signing period of the 2019 cycle.

Established in October of last year, the NCAA’s transfer portal now allows student-athletes to merely enter their name into an online database and merely wait for collegiate teams to contact them. It is also worth noting that players can withdraw their name from the portal, too. But McDonald is now on his way to Cincinnati.

Alabama has already lost two players to transfer in backup quarterback Jalen Hurts, who is now at Oklahoma, and reserve offensive lineman Richie Petitbon, who chose to transfer to Illinois.

Wright wanted to be part of the Crimson Tide family (BamaOnLine | embedded video)
quote:

De'Rickey Wright became commitment No. 14 for the Crimson Tide last week when he committed to Alabama over offers from LSU, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Texas A&M, among many others.

“I just really wanted to go there,” the Attalla (Ala.) Etowah product said. “I didn’t want to waste any time, so I just went ahead and committed. I really didn’t have the urge to build it up and everything. I just wanted to be a part of the Crimson Tide family, so I pulled the trigger.”

The Tide staff, including his primary recruiter Holmon Wiggins, were happy to learn of Wright’s decision. “They were excited and they were ready for me to get back down there,” Wright said, recalling how the coaches reacted when he told them. “It was exciting.”

Excitement is an understatement when it comes to hometown reaction, as Wright says people out in public have been telling him Roll Tide and congratulations since he’s announced his decision.

As for where the 6-foot-3, 220-pounder projects with the Tide, Wright says Nick Saban talked about the safety position upon offering back in February. His true position may not be determined for a few more months.

“I’m still supposed to go to a camp this summer,” Wright said. “So I’ll go up there and they’ll get a feel for me of what position I’ll be at.” Any preference? “I just want to be able to contribute in some way,” he said.

Ultimately, it was the people that sold Wright on the opportunity to play for the Tide. “How family-oriented they are,” he said of what he likes best about the program. “Since I committed I’ve been able to keep in contact with their other commits and stuff, build a relationship with them.”

Wright doesn’t only excel on the football field. He also plays baseball, basketball and even tennis at one point. As for a potential future on the diamond, the in-state standout says he hasn’t made his mind up on that just yet.

So for those that aren’t familiar with De’Rickey Wright, what is Alabama getting in its latest pledge? “A hard, humble worker,” he said. “I’m going to work hard and I’m not going to be the one that tries to be all flashy.”

Wright is rated the No. 26 athlete and the No. 392 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.

RCS Midseason Report: Five that have lived up to the hype
quote:

The Rivals 3 Stripe Camp Series presented by adidas is at the midway point, and after working all the way from California through Texas, Louisiana and Florida, there have been plenty of notable performances. Several elite playmakers have participated thus far, and today we break down five prospects who have lived up to their lofty rankings.

Justin Flowe | 5-star LB | Upland, CA

Every time Flowe steps on the field he goes non-stop, so it’s not surprising that he impressed once again during the Los Angeles stop of the camp series in February. What makes the hard-hitting linebacker so special is that he thrives in a camp setting, but during drills and in pass coverage. There’s a reason that Flowe is wanted by every major program in the country and is ranked inside the top five of the Rivals100 and he showed it in Los Angeles.

Kelee Ringo | 5-star CB | Scottsdale, AZ

One of the most physically impressive prospects in the class, Ringo almost looks as if he was built in a lab by a collective of a defensive back coaches. He’s big, has terrific length and is one of the fastest prospects in the class and he has all those traits combined with a high football IQ. A lockdown corner, Ringo put on an excellent display at the Los Angeles stop of the tour in February.

Darnell Washington | 5* TE | Las Vegas

Washington almost looks like he could be near the top of the Rivals150 basketball rankings thanks to his 6-foot-7 height and impressive wingspan. Instead, he’s a nightmare match-up for defenses both on Friday nights and in a camp setting. He showed that at the Los Angeles stop of the camp series, using his size and speed to easily handle opposing linebackers. The Nevada native has offers from programs all over the country and will have his pick of programs when the time comes.

Chris Morris | 4-star OT | Memphis, TN

The nation’s No. 34 overall player, Morris continued his camp dominance, a theme during his career as a prospect by winning MVP honors in New Orleans. Morris has only gotten bigger and stronger since winning the offensive line MVP at the Nashville stop of the tour last year and will be making a return trip to the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by adidas.

Bijan Robinson | 4-star RB | Tuscon, AZ

Robinson is one of the nation’s top running backs and he showed why at the Los Angeles stop of the tour, making the trip over from Arizona and impressing from start to finish. Robinson is built like a true every down back and despite his punishing running style, he also flashed his impressive hands as well as his ability to make people miss in space.
