Not sure what the Schollarship rules are; but, what do you think the odds are that DeLong and Bulovas are with the team after A Day? If Will Reichard shows up and can kick with more certainty, I beleve both will move on...Team just does not need the distraction of knowing the punter cant punt and kicker cant kick.
when can anyone remember so many kicks out of bounds or punting averaging 34 yards a punt?

Regardless of what they do in practice, the in game experience is just not deserving of schollarship

Looking at your depth chart, next year's class will only have 6 Seniors (19 Jrs) that will really impact next year's recruiting class unless there are many "processed" thru transfers and early NFL entrees (dont see more than 4 possibles for Jrs going to NFL)

6 seniors 4 Jrs leaving for NFL = 10
???? 2020 class will be challenged to say the least

Hard to say at this point about Bulovas and DeLong. I suppose Bama may need and want to use their total counter limit spots elsewhere. Reichard can't be worse than Bulovas and he can also punt as far as DeLong can. Bama has been using a walkon punter (also short range but at least he's not a shanker) since October and is looking at bringing in another one.

There are always more departures besides just seniors and early entries to the NFL draft. Many Bama players get their degrees by May of their 3rd year because they take summer courses for 3 years beginning before their first fall camp. Early enrollees can graduate by Dec of their 3rd year. Some of them transfer, some move on with life after football. As of Dec 2018, we currently have 24 scholarship players with degrees. More will graduate by May, 2020. It usually works out.

Going to be very interesting to see those who return after the A-Day game. May Graduation and the "talk" after A-Day will bring some to their senses and provide the impetus to make a business decision and decide to move on.

Both of those are huge keeps for the team. If 99 gets his head right he could be the glue we need on DL. Was worried about replacing all 3 DL

Also, I missed this earlier - Long Snapper Scott Meyer who went on Schollarship last fall is not mentioned? was his just a one year deal or for duration?

Anyway, I would agree that having two long snappers on Schollarship seems to be excessive. (he played in one game this past season and I think for just one snap? thought the scholly was mostly a payback for the load he shouldered in the 2017 season when Fletcher was finding his way as a true freshman)

Meyer's scholarship was probably for one year. Bama gave two walkons scholarships in late August, which met the 85 limit for the fall term.

Walk-ons Scott Meyer (LS) and DJ Lewis (CB) awarded scholarships

The NCAA midyear replacement rule that allows for counting early enrollees against unused spots from the prior recruiting cycle requires a full 85 on scholarship for that academic year.

Meyer is in his 3rd year of school. If he enrolled early and/or has been taking summer courses, he may be on track to graduate before fall.

Alabama star RB Josh Jacobs leaving for NFL (al.com)

quote:

Damien Harris isn’t the only Alabama running back moving on to the NFL.

Josh Jacobs is entering the NFL draft, sources told AL.com.

Jacobs emerged as one of the nation’s top do-it-all running backs as a junior this past season and is expected to be in the mix to be one of the first running backs drafted. Jacobs ran for 640 yards and a team-high 11 rushing touchdowns while also catching 20 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns.

The Oklahoma native also averaged 30.6 yards per return as the Crimson Tide’s kick returner and returned a kick 77 yards for a touchdown.

Post will be updated.

Alabama tight end Irv Smith expected to turn pro (al.com)

quote:

Alabama’s All-SEC tight end Irv Smith, Jr. is expected to enter the NFL draft, sources told AL.com.

Smith’s father was a first-round draft pick as a tight end back in 1993. Now, he may soon be one, too.

The Louisiana native was one of the Crimson Tide’s top offensive weapons as a junior this past season and broke the school single-season records for tight ends with 710 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

“Irv is a really good player,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said during the season. “... He does all phases of what we do well. He’s a good receiver. He’s a good off-the-ball blocker. He’s a good on-the-ball blocker. He’s got really good hands and he’s a good receiver and he’s fast enough to be a threat down the field.”

Matt Womack* -- I put him back on. I suppose if he doesn't nail down a starting spot this spring, he might decide to grad transfer. We'll see. He's a redshirt junior, so he probably graduates in May.

If Leatherwood is moved back out to LT, I could see us moving Womack inside.

Leatherwood
Brown
Owens
Womack
Wills

Yeah, maybe Womack does have a pretty good shot at being a starter.

I'm no insider, but I get the feeling that Wilson and Jennings will return and not declare that they're entering the draft tomorrow. I really hope that's the case.

I think this looks pretty good. Leatherwood was a beast at LT, I think he'd be a star there. Are we getting Deonte Brown back? If so that's big at LG. Owens at Center is likely. Womack at RG makes sense because he has experience. He's pretty tall for a Guard, but in college it can work. Wills is a stud at RT.

Neal or Quick could get into the lineup at LG if we don't have Brown, or RG if Womack struggles to transition.
