John Pelphrey has already shown himself to be a huge upgrade over Pospichal with the additions of Giddens and now Olaniyan. He was the point man on both.

He will be a 4 for us unless we go to a small lineup or have serious foul troubles because both Taylor and Hall are strictly 5s. He's strictly a post player.

Does he get rebounds based on positioning? Because it doesn't look like his vertical is that high.

I noticed this too. Hopefully he boxes out alright. Reminds me of Carl Engstrom.

He does have a good jump hook though, so there's that.

Yes, good positioning is usually what makes a good rebounder a good rebounder

“I think it’s the best place for me,” Olaniyan told BamaOnLine. “When I got there, I liked all the coaching staff. I feel comfortable there. I think it’s the best spot for me.”

First-year UA assistant John Pelphrey is credited with Olaniyan’s commitment. While he’s listed as a center, Olaniyan may be used in a variety of roles in Tuscaloosa.

“When I got there I let them know I can play four or five, either way,” Olaniyan said. “The coach will know the right spot for me. They’ll let me know. I’ll be fine either way.” The former Saluki, who will have one year of immediate eligibility remaining, enjoyed his official visit to campus last Thursday after already taking visits to Houston and Pitt.

“I like everything overall,” Olaniyan said. “It’s a pretty campus and a great place to go to school. I just like it. I can see myself there. I’m excited to start the process of going back to class and practice.”

Well, you can have decent position but an incredible vertical and out rebound most people in the MVC. I thought he could at least jump a little bit, but it looks like he could barely touch the rim.

Good positioning and hustle always trumps an athletic vertical. Most of the best rebounders in NBA history didn't have crazy hops.

Hank South went ahead and CB'd John Petty to Bama. We now have the last 4 CB's for Petty

I hope you're right, but I think Brown stays out West.
