Screw AJ. I'm so tired of seeing him get minutes. Yes, he looks good once every six games but that doesn't mean you're freaking Steph Curry and can shoot 3s on a fast break.

Because we re more talented than we ve been in years and these young guys gut it out, that gets u far when u aren't playing well. We have a young team playing a tough arse schedule and already have quality wins that we didn't have last yr. It's like when I see posts saying we cant shoot... Bullshite , and the turnovers have gone down the last 2 games. We re still a work in progress but that's the nature of the college game. None of our losses are bad eyesore losses. Almost every team we've played could end up in the dance and we re benefitting by not playing sisters of the poor everynight (ie miss state, the barn).

How many years have you followed Bama basketball? I'm not being a smartass, it's a honest question.

The best news so far is we have a pretty good OOC resume. Win Friday and it's a very solid one. No bad losses, a few wins that will end up looking really good in March (Rhode Island, BYU) and a lot of good 100-150 filler (Mercer, La Tech, UTA, Memphis).

However, the team we've seen so far needs some work before we hit a tough league schedule.

I think we may go 7-11 in conference.

I think we'll definitely drop games against teams like LSU and Miss State. The question is how many of the top teams drop games against us.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if we get to the final five games at 18 wins then go

2/17 @Kentucky L
2/21 @Auburn L
2/24 Arkansas L
2/27 Florida L
3/3 @Texas A&M L

Lose to Ole Miss in the tournament somehow

NIT 2 seed.

It's possible. I just think it's too early to tell. Teams develop identities in conference play, good or bad.

If we don't get off to a 7-2/6-3 or better start with our first 9 games (A&M, @ UGA, @ Van, USC, @ LSU, AU, MSU, Miz) then we are going to be in trouble.

I've followed Bama basketball and football since I was 8 years old, so 32 years and counting. Avery's first 2 years we flat out stunk offensively...No fault of his or the kids, he just had to develop what he has on hand. Talent is there, and it amazes me people are acting like we re no better than last year. The sec is deeper, but it's not a 9-10 bid league. Counting us it's probably a 7 bid league but every team has an issue or weakness.

As an aside, our final month is tough and we won't lose to LSU or miss St, the potential is there for a great start in the league and don't underestimate how valuable playing this schedule has been.

I'd still expect Bama to get in the tournament + 10-8 conf schedule. I think Bama needs at minimum 20W after SECT + 1 W vs a top 25 type like UK, TAMU, UF, or OU though

I wouldn't worry about a close game against Mercer. These things happen. Auburn lost an exhibition to a D2 school and is now 10-1 and looking solid

A solid point gene...That's what I've been trying to get across to some here. College basketball is about survival moreso than style points every night. Bama has beaten and played quite a few seasoned teams and the team they beat tonight will be top 3 in their league most likely. People tend to focus too much on the name on the jersey. I thing 10-8 in the conference for this team is a fair assessment and 12-6, 13-5 is probably best case.

I've been following for about the same amount of time (I admit, I didn't know a damn thing about the rules for the first few years )

I see things completely different than you do about this team. You are counting on potential. I'm going by what I'm seeing. I hope you're right, but I guess we'll have to wait until the end of the season. I'll gladly eat crow if I'm wrong, I do it way too often.

I don't think people are as concerned about the Mercer game as they are about how we have looked the last 5 games or so.

You've beat a solid RI team and pushed a top 5 talent team in Zona to the buzzer People were giving me shite for pumping the sunshine brakes to point out how young the team is + likelihood of some ugly ugly games.

Games/stretches like these are learning experiences for coaches to build on. Just have to figure out if you think Avery is Johnny Jones 2.0 or if he can coach basketball

Also, at what point does Bryne tell him not to play his fricking son?

Avery has accomplished more than Johnny Jones...The 2 aren't even the same.

I think you meant "better coach" because Avery has not "accomplished" more than Jones who has 3 NCAAT appearances

Clearly I need to explain this for you in simpler terms though

Young teams show signs of youth/inexperience. These are great learning experiences for coaches to build on to improve throughout the year

How much Alabama improves will be a testament to Avery's coaching ability

There is a spectrum from
A) Avery shows Coach K type in season improvement /coaching

To

B) Avery pulls a Johnny Jones coast on talent no in season coaching

** This is key**

Avery can fall somewhere between the two. It isn't necessarily either A or B

Some of y'all need a xanax. If you've been a Bama fan during basketball season you should probably just renew your prescription

Last night was awful, but y'all are taking it way too hard. We had a ten day break and it's quite common for a good team to look a little out of sorts in mid-December. The previous game we outplayed what will likely turn out to be a top 10ish team (better if Trier has a short absence) at their place. Step back from the ledge guys. This is still a tournament team. One terrible game doesn't change that.

Teams relying on freshman tend to be much better towards end season than they do during the non-conference stretch. There's still plenty of reasons to be excited.
