shite! Shoulda known it was coming but UGA is about to cut Mark Fox loose unless he wins the SEC tourney. They will be in the market for an upgrade. I have no idea who is on their short list but we don't need another SEC team in the market if we decide to rip off the bandaid AND we don't need another SEC school making an upgrade. Frick!!
I was really hoping that Fox would be kept for at least 2 more years. We are going to passed over by every damn school in the SEC. I'm beyond pissed/frustrated

I was hoping 10 more years
UGA could easily rise up to be a really good program if they make a competent hire and actually start caring about basketball. The ATL/GA basketball scene is incredibly talented
Hopefully UGA continues their streak of garbage basketball hires

Maybe they'll throw some major bank at Avery

Crean and Matta will undoubtedly be on everyone's coaching search list. Byrne probably won't because of Avery's first two years, but this offseason would be a nice time to grab a new coach and take a chance on him.

It's not fair, but I know this decision is going to put Byrne on my shite list.
I'm sure he's losing sleep over being on my list

Even so, my tactic would be to fire him "with cause" for the Sexton incident
Did I miss something? There are rumors but did something come out?

If Steve Forbes lasts another year at ETSU, he would be a great hire. He has a great bball coaching reputation and can recruit. No joke, everywhere he shows up, the team shows improvement
- Part of TAMU 7W to 20+ W turnaround with Gillespie (Gillespie didn't have Forbes at UK)
- Part of Bruce Pearl's TN turnaround
- Part of Wichita St's consecutive 30+ W seasons, two best seasons in Wichita history
- HC at ETSU w avg 15W 3 previous years, has won 24W, 27W 25W with likely 2 consecutive NCAAT appearances
The onlydownside to Forbes is the lingering TN debacle, which his only involvement was just toeing the party line to protect Bruce

Well Sexton was suspended and it was a violation. Essentially it would be an excuse to fire without paying him.
More than likely, it would result in a negotiated buyout

Gotcha. I thought he was referring to something else.

That's like getting credit for becoming bowl eligible when you have 5 wins and the NCAA gives you a waiver to play in a bowl game.

However, I do not understand how anyone can down vote the above quote
Not your down voter, but making a bowl game is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy*ahem*yyyyyyyyyyyyy easier than making it into the tournament. You're looking at 32 automatic bids (where maybe 10 or so teams are actually worthy) and 36 at-large bids in the NCAAT that 351 schools fight for. Whereas in football there were 78 bowl teams last year that 129 or 130 FBS teams play for.
That means that only 19% of all basketball teams can get into the tournament, and about half of that percentage get into the tournament without a conference championship. Compare that to the 61% of FBS teams that get to play in a bowl game and the comparison is ludicrous.

I see your fancy stats but still think the comparison is legit.

He'll be on a lot, but it's a tough decision to make because of the shite Battle did. Gave an unproven HC a ridiculous buyout early in his tenure. So you're faced with firing a guy to go get your guy, but have to eat millions of dollars. Or stay with him, and hope for the best, but inevitably know there probably isn't much direction or improvement in terms of exceeding expectations.
It's really frustrating as a fan. It would really be nice if we could finally chalk up games like @Vandy and @OM as wins, instead of using the same "well we never win there" excuse for our coach.

I hate that excuse.

Auburn will never win in Rupp or Memorial. I've just accepted that as life
I'd suggest you do too if you want to be happy

Same here, and I wish as a fan base we would get out of that mentality. If it were football, would we be content with Alabama losing to 9-win Auburn teams on the road? Or would we as fans demand better from our team? Would you want a coach that is satisfied with "almost good", or a coach that can't go to sleep with the thought of his team losing? That's the kind mind set I wish a coach could come in here and instill. Get us out of thinking that "just enough" is okay and continues to make the same mistake.
And I'm not saying Avery has been any of the things I've stated above. But I would like to hear more about how his team damn sure won't make the same mistake twice, and he's going to work twice as much to make sure.

It's not exactly advanced statistics. I wasn't trying to call you out specifically, because that comparison has been made several times before. I'm also not trying to defend Avery as he's getting paid 3 million to get into that 10-19 percent. I just don't think people realize how much harder making the tournament is than getting a bowl game
