I love retin...But that shouldn't even be a question.

Who was/is a better player: freshman Sexton or senior Obasohan?
Just in terms of on court product (obviously Sexton talent > Retin talent)
I'd probably lean Sexton, but it is ridiculously close from a #s perspective. Sexton gets the edge mostly due to having a slightly higher efficiency rating on higher usage (hard to do). The increased efficiency is almost entirely based on Sexton's Assist Rate, TO Rate + FT Rate & FT%
Breakout of Stats
Usage%- Sexton
eFG% - Obasohan
FT% - Sexton
2FG% - Obasohan
3FG% - Obasohan
Oreb- slight Sexton
Dreb- slight Obasohan
Assist Rate- Sexton
TO Rate- Slight Sexton
Stl% - Obasohan
Fouls Drawn per 40m- Slight Sexton

How bad is the situation at ‘ Zona?

It's not good for sure. Never good if a coach is caught on a wiretap.

I'd also point out that you can extend Retin into the ending of his JR year. People seem to forget that Retin's last 12 games in 2014-2015 were great
In the final 12 games played in 2014-15
eFG% - 52.8% (Sexton only at ~49% for reference)
RPG - 4.6rpg
10+ Pt Games - 11/12
15+ Pt Games - 5/12
50+% eFG Games - 9/12

Define bad
Season Ending - Yes
Immediate Future Tanking - Probably
Program Ending - Depends
If Arizona can escape lasting program punishments, they should okay if they can make a good hire.
Proud "basketball schools" can easily fall off the face of the earth with a bad hire though. Just look at UConn, Syracuse, Georgetown and others that in the past 3 years went from top 10 programs to nobodies
Arizona is like a basketball version of Auburn or Tennessee. It's a huge deal job, but not a "can't say no" type job like a UK/Kansas/UNC/Duke offer

I'd take Sr Retin over Fr Sexton in a one season scenario. His leadership and intangibles dwarf Sexton's.
Posted on 2/24/18 at 3:39 pm to The Spleen
Lol ok. They "dwarf" sextons? Both great students, good kids. That's a stretch to say one dwarfs the other. U expect a senior to be a leader, whereas a freshman has to find middle ground.

Does it happen after Byrne left?
Posted on 2/24/18 at 3:42 pm to biggsc
Arizona announced that Deandre Ayton is eligible and will play tonight
Byrne's biggest gaffe is if he was involved on Sean Miller's contract, which somehow has a bigger buyout for being fired "with cause" ($10m) than fired "without cause" ($5mil)

Of course. Nothing in my post implied either weren't. Sr season Retin had much more experience and maturing than Fr Sexton has right now. Sexton dwarfs Retin in talent and potential, but give me the option of either in a one season scenario and I take Retin without much hesitation.

Emmert's statement today kinda says it all. Paraphrasing but he said alot of NCAA rules are archaic and need to be modified. This is all leading to reform or the appearance of it. Too much and too widespread to punish people and programs. This should've been done a long time ago. Hundreds of thousands of dollars is a wake-up call , as well as making a big deal out of 70 and 100 dollar meals for a few kids' parents.

The problem with reform is there's no way they can effectively do it without acknowledging their model is exploitation of athletes for the NCAA and its member school's own financial gain.
I mean Miller is busted talking about $100k to Ayton, while Miller is clearing how much annually? And how much does Arizona charge its season ticket holders? What does Arizona's AD make? And that doesn't even touch on the shoe contracts the school's have, or the TV contracts the leagues have. It's ridiculous how much money is in major college athletics, and how little of it is for the benefit of the ones playing the game. And we're supposed to lose our minds over Ayton getting $100k? Please. I'm asking why he didn't ask for more. He's certainly worth it.

I agree that the NCAA needs to acknowledge their sins...I expect them to put on a 6 month parade and act like they're working to change the model. Another point that should be mentioned...Aaron Torres pointed out that Dawkins has a shady history and his expense report probably isn't as reliable as some would assume. The guy is gonna say anything to avoid prison time.

I'm beginning to think that the NCAA is going to fall on the sword for the most part. Too many blue blood schools are involved. The NCAA are going to say that this is clearly a sign that their rules are out of date. It's going to piss me off
Posted on 2/24/18 at 4:33 pm to Bamainva40
Heard guy on the radio say the NCAA should use the Olympic's amateur model and let people pay the athletes but not lose their amateur status. I like it, the bluebloods are going to stay the bluebloods no matter what you do.

Do you really think the NCAA is going to enact real reform and crucify the blue bloods in a sport that has been and continues to be their meal ticket? They aren’t going to gut the sport that pays their bills. The corruption stems from the shoe companies and the agents. Yes, money is the root cause and the athletes are getting exploited and screwed but Nike and agents are writing the checks that make it all happen. And the shoe companies are so embedded now in sports in general, nobody can afford to cut them out. And football is right on the heels of following basketball down this slippery slope.
The real opportunity here is for major college athletics to dissolve the current NCAA as archaic, incompetent and impotent and restructure the governing body.

What emmert said today was basically falling on the sword... Literally said there are many outdated rules.
