I have this theory that Petty only plays well when he's high. He's so shitty on the road because he can't sneak any onto the team bus.
I mean, this is a solvable problem.

I will say...........IF this game somehow kicks everyone into gear and we play 2 straight solid home games and beat Florida and Arkansas...........
Totally worth it and better than a close hard loss that didn't have that effect.
Or something.

I’m sick and tired of seeing these shitty half arse, don’t give a frick performances. And that rests squarely on the shoulders of the coach. The minute they hit the quit button, you sit their asses down and tell them they’ll be there beside you until they decide to earn their minutes.
There’s more to coaching than bringing in talent. That’s step one. Step two is coaching them up to the next level. Who on that floor is playing better than they did in November? Or last year? Collin? He’s adjusting his game to the next level all on his own. Petty? He’s a big fricking bust so far. Giddens? Casper the ghost would be more of an inside presence. Ingram? Same mediocre overhyped player he was last year. Hall is the only one I’d say is showing improvement. It’s late Feb. They aren’t “young” anymore. They have almost a full season under their belt and they look like they just arrived on campus.
If we make the tournament, I don’t think we have any reason to fire Avery. But if we flame out again and go 0 fer down the stretch, I think we have to consider it strongly. There are quality coaches out there like Tom Crean who want a job. Either way, if Avery decided to leave on his own, I’d have no problem with that. Don’t let the door hit you. This team decides to play when THEY decide to play. Not when Avery or anyone else tells them to, but only when they want to. And he lets them. That’s not coaching them, that’s being their buddy.
This is all about the big picture. Not the wins and losses, but the quality of the wins and losses. The inexplicable shite shows against Georgia, Texas, and now our biggest rival. We can’t keep mailing in every other game. You think that impresses the committee, recruits, fans? I don’t know about y’all, but I get no pleasure from watching a team that could lose to Samford today and turn around and beat the Cavaliers Saturday. frick that! I want your best every time you put on the jersey. If that’s too much to ask, I’d rather watch Lawton Schaffer bust his arse for 2 halves and lose than watch that bunch of prima donas sleepwalk through a game.
I’ll end this melt with this: I’m no basketball strategy guru. I can dissect a football game with the best of you, but I’m not debating the nuances of a motion offense. But I do know hustle and effort when I see it and I damn sure know the difference between good coaching and bad coaching. And right now, the coaching we are getting matches our performance. It’s up and down. Avery is pretty good, but very inconsistent. And don’t mistake that for very good. He’s just pretty good. And I don’t think there’s much upside either. This is as good as it gets. This guy ain’t taking us to a Final Four. And to me, that should be the goal. Good ain’t good enough. Battle fricked up and let Ben Howland and Rick Barnes and Gregg Marshall get away while we settled for an out of work washed up NBA retread who called us on the off chance we might give him a job which is exactly what we did. And while State and UT are rebuilding their basketball programs back to consistent performance and tournament teams, we’re trying to ride one NBA lottery pick who is a one and done to a tourney appearance just for the sake of saying we made the Dance. What happens next year? We’re fricked, that’s what! We should cut our losses now and try again. I’ll be more than happy to admit it if I’m wrong. But I say this time next year, we’ll be squarely back on the bubble, sweating our last few games and slumping back to the NIT once again.

Phil, this is a high quality post and melt. This is a strong performance

Phil - I love your love for the Tide. And I agree with a lot of that post.
This however......
.........I cannot agree with. We may be frustrating next year because we don't get any better, but we certainly aren't built around 1 NBA players and a bunch of scrub seniors. We'll return a talented team next year. Doesn't mean we'll make the most of it, but we'll have a very solid roster.

Work of fricking beauty, Phil.

George, I think you’re right, we’ll have a very solid roster next year. And about this time of year we’ll be sitting at 17-11 and 8-7 and wondering if we can win 3 in a row and steal a bid. Avery is just not going to make a difference.
Posted on 2/21/18 at 11:05 pm to phil4bama
You know what would fix Bama Phil.......
Frank Martin.
just kidding.
Frank Martin.

You gotta admit, Frank wouldn’t put up with their shite.

Avery wins the big games and loses the ones we should win.
I get pissed thinking about ife we just would have beat UCF,Vandy,UGA, and Ole Miss we could be relaxing right now.

Can't disagree with you on that one at all at this point. Sucks.

A quote I heard during the David Hobbs era that resonated with me.
A coach's motivational ability is shown in the games his team should win. Motivation is not needed for the big games. If a team is not motivated in the easy win games...thats on the coach. Players not motivated in the big games then the players have problems.
Paraphrased of course...been a few years.
Tonight was a big game.
We seem to be having issues with both types of games now.
