Ive never been as pissed as I was last night about a Sporting Event. Not even when the Braves blew a 2-0 WS lead at home against the Yankees.

I get what you're saying, but when we went small we didn't even try hard to press.

The whole refusing to zone with this bunch is madness. This team is built to easily transfer between switching man to man and zone. They are all long and athletic. They make the floor look tiny. And yet, nothing.
I think where we are right now is Avery is still very much a guy who thinks like a NBA player/coach, but seems to be unwilling/unable to adapt to how much more you have to be willing and able to adjust at the college level : year to year, game to game and possession to possession. Like in college football, the variation in schemes/styles/players is drastically different from opponent to opponent in college than it is in the NBA.
This team, as long and athletic, streaky and as good of FINISHERS as we are, should at least have some sort of pressure package in our arsenal. We don't have to use it every game, but certain nights (or situations) where things are flat and the other team is grinding us, it would be great to pull that out and try to get things flowing again. Our roster makeup is perfect for it. Same with a solid zone. Roster is long and athletic, built to be able to make the floor small. And, we have a bunch of young, babyfaced kids, and nothing calms guys down and gets them feeling comfortable again than playing in a style and pace where you literally don't have time to think and process.
That doesn't mean we have to ALWAYS do those things, but they should definitely be in our toolbelt for situations like last night. And they just don't appear to be options at all.

"Arkansas, I just want to throw up if they're gonna be in it. Arkansas shouldn't be in it. What's his name, Fishback that gets on there and drives me crazy. Last night those 2 people who did that game I turned um off"
"Well that wasn't Fishback, it was Laphonso Ellis"
"Fishback needs to go stick his head in a bucket of water. He played for Sonny or somebody. He don't know left from right"
"He played for Cliff. Cliff Ellis. Well, Wimp is presented each week by Coca-Cola"
"I'll probably be sponsored by water next week"
"Wimp, love you"
"Eh love you"
"How are you coach?"
"I'm doing good. I heard yalls show, it's a joke"
"Is this Jim from Tuscaloosa or is this Wimp?"
"Now Jim, you asked me a question"
"I did not"

The greatest freshmen class in history ('91 fab five) was 5-4 after 9 conference games.
Certainly not comparing the two, just perspective.

The guys on that show always find a way to degrade Bama Basketball and suck off Auburn Basketball

I mean, do you blame them right now? One is arguably the most consistent team in the country over the last 2 months. The other just lost at home to Missouri.

Pearl deserves a ton of credit. Their team takes care of business night in and night out (sans 1 game in T-Town), while ours can't decide whether they want to get up for a game or not

playing a small lineup wasn't an option. Did you watch the game?
Yes, I watched the game smartass. I also believe that a team is capable of making it difficult for another team to play their bigs if you dictate the pace of the game. Which was the point of my entire post. Their bigs would have to guard somebody in space if we went small, and that would have created plenty of lanes for our guys to drive and score or create a scramble defense to open things up for guys more. Might not have mattered because we didn't hit what few open shots we had. But that's what my philosophy is when I coach and what I like to watch.

their bigs would have shot layups all day the way they did when we put Smith in the game.
We couldn't handle them. Going small wasn't going to help that.
Sorry for the 'watch the game' comment
We just aren't that good. Truth hurts.

They shot layups anyway. If we go small, maybe we force turnovers or eliminate them from the game with pace. That's all I'm saying. Plus, sometimes it can wake a sleepwalking team up by forcing them to play full court defense. Sometimes it backfires and you get beat by 30, but I thought it was obvious halfway through the second half that what we were doing wasn't going to win the game.

They were so physical inside. They also set great screens out front.
I didn't think their guards handled the ball that poorly either.
Very frustrating for sure.
8pm games blow.

Well we didn't really make them do much but make decisions on screens and chase them around the perimeter a little.

SOG I must concede to your point, after looking at the box score we shot 65% on FT's which isn't great but isn't as awful as I expected.
The stat that tells the story of the game is Mizzou shot 53% from the field and Alabama shot 35%.

That was funny, but embarassing for Wimp.
I coudln't disagree more with his assessment of the fans being responsible for Alabama not playing well. That outright horse shite.

yea it's not on the fans.
With that being said, it was literally the quietest game I've attended since the 70's. You could hear the coaches calling out the plays 20 rows up.
8pm games are absurd. You can't blame people for not coming from out of town.
On to Florida. Don't give up. Long way to go. It's certainly been interesting.
for people who went, what do you think actual attendance was, 8k? 60% full?

The barn has 2 winning seasons in the past 8 years. Hard to suck up to a program like that. 7 losing seasons in a ROW.
Posted on 2/1/18 at 5:58 pm to McGregor
11,603 was the official attendance last night
