I read Bryne statement on eligibility
He said both "eligibility not reinstated" and "precaution" which makes no sense
You are either eligible or your not. There is no gray area, just "precaution" to not play ineligible players and vacating losses

I mean, I think it was actually pretty obvious that Byrne was implying their expectation that Sexton will be declared eligible at some point soon.

A consensus five-star player, and potential NBA lottery pick, Sexton is a huge reason why people are so optimistic about Alabama’s chances in the SEC. However, as indicated in a report by ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, it may be a little while before Sexton is able to get on the court for the Crimson Tide.
quote:
According to Goodman’s report, Sexton is ‘the unnamed player identified in a federal complaint against Auburn assistant coach Chuck Person and former NBA referee Rashan Michel.’ That complaint alleges that former Alabama associate athletics director Kobie Baker accepted bribes from Michel to influence Alabama players to sign with a financial advisor upon turning pro.
quote:
Of course, this report comes on the heels of Sexton’s being held out of Alabama’s exhibition game against Alabama-Huntsville on Monday. There is no word at this time when — or even if — the Tide expect to have Sexton back in the lineup.

If this article is true, then Byrne and Avery have known for some time that he was ineligible. This isn't something that just pops up.

Basically what we already knew. Sexton's bro quoted it on twitter and said "This is a lie. Don't read this article"

Let's hope it is,this season without being able to watch Sexton play for us would be a kick in the nuts. Beyond painful.

I'll trust Sexton on this. He said he was "squeaky clean."

If Sexton ends up being ruled ineligible, we are officially cursed. Since I started watching Bama basketball almost 10 years ago, I say next year is our year almost every year whether the media is hyping us up or not. This was finally supposed to be THE year, year 3. It's what Avery pinpointed when he got here. And now it's all on the brink of falling off of a cliff. PLEASE let Sexton play this year....

I've been watching Bama basketball since around 1987. We are cursed. This sucks, but it just reinforces the fact.

I can't make myself quit watching bc I'm a true fan and I want to experience them being good for once, but dang this is gonna hurt so freaking much if he's ineligible. It almost makes me want to give up on ever being good. Almost.

I've already given up. Will still watch every game and still go to a few, but not expecting the run deep in the tournament that I was hoping for.

I just wanted to make the tournament before the season. We can do that with or without Sexton. It'll obviously be a lot harder without him, but the team should still be good.

Where’s the fricking Cam response, NCAA? You cleared his guilty arse in less than 24 hours. How about the same treatment?

The actual Goodman article claims that sources point to issues re Sextons relationship with former AAU coach Christian
Dawkins was the runner for Adidas and helped direct $250k to at least 3 players according to FBI

I actually heard people say he may have had connections to him awhile back but nothing ever came of it until today. If Sexton was offered money to go to an Adidas school, and he chose Bama a Nike school, then the chances he took the money are low, right?

Nike schools are caught up in this (Arizona) and Nike is accused of being the other part of the bidding war for other top recruits
Also, there is the whole "What person turns down $50-100k to play at blueblood Kansas to play for free at a non NCAAT team?"
This logic isn't unique to Sexton though. Can say this about nearly every high profile recruit

When you have to pay 50-100k for a recruit to go to a blueblood then the sport is truly fricked. In other words you are now paying kids openly to to play basketball in college.

Avery said this morning that Key's recovery should take about 4 weeks. Riley should also be back around thanksgiving.
Now if we can just get Collin back this season may not be ruined
