We may see that. Say we're playing a team like Auburn. Tony Brown and Eddie Jackson starting. Saban is gonna tell TB and EJ to man up on Coates and Duke Williams and then that opens everything else up. There's no reason to get complicated sometimes, when you have the talent to do it, just have guys man up, get right in the face of the receivers, and play football.
Way too many times last year (like A&M and first half of OU) we played our DBs far off the WRs, and they ate us up with quick screens to playmakers. I'd love to see them be more physical this year. Tony Brown is a corner who plays with a mean streak, we need that.

Yeah, and if eddie jackson comes back he gives us even more flexibility, as he is our best mix of physical ability and experience

Some good news:
@AaronSuttles: Jarran Reed and Brandon Ivory both practiced today but only in shorts and shells. Tim Williams was not at practice.

Since Robinson got injured, we needed them back at practice today

Maybe, maybe not. Practiced without all 3 in both practice sessions yesterday.

As does Yeldon. Really quick set of feet.
Do we have the biggest (or at least tallest) RB corps in the SEC/nation?
Henry is 6'3", Yeldon is 6'2", Drake is 6'1", Altee is 6'0", Tyren is only 5'9", but then Fowler is 6'1".
I'm sure some are taller, just seems kinda tall. Then we are definitely in it for tallest WRs and OL. Plus we have three big QBs, and then Bateman at 6'3" 215.
Big team.

@AaronSuttles: Saban: Leon Brown is probably still a week away from being able to play.
@AaronSuttles: Saban: A'Shawn Robinson has a sprained knee, not surgical. Probably going to take a week or more.

With White still having some nagging injuries last year, if he's more healthy this year that duo of Coop/White is gonna be fun to watch if we have competency at the QB position and Kiffin gets them the ball.

Yeah we'll have to see if he puts it together this year. There have been expectations for him to break out every year since '11
Posted on 8/7/14 at 5:21 pm to sarc
He was pretty good last year, now would be the time for him to take that next step, but the only problem is we have a big question mark at QB.
He's a really good talent, just needs to polish his game.

Drake looks like he's gonna give himself a nice combine draft stock bump. He looks smooth as frick.
Posted on 8/7/14 at 5:34 pm to Patton
He'll have to get invited the combine. May or may not happen if he's 3rd string this year. But I agree he would do well

@Marq_Burnett: RT Austin Shepherd says freshmen Rashaan Evans and Christian Miller are tough to block off the edge because of their speed.
@AaronSuttles: Reggie Ragland said Keith Holcombe is one to watch in the future. "He's going to be a stud."
@marctorrence: Saban lists Robert Foster, Chris Black and ArDarius Stewart as WRs who have had good camps behind the "big three"

Not sure how to interpret this:
@LivingCrimson: Saban: Adam Griffith, if he doesn't have to go see psychiatrist for every kick he misses, then he has good chance to success for us.
Also
@LivingCrimson: Saban: You can be a really good punter, but if too slow to get off the punt, no benefit. Functionally executing is a big part.

If we use three backs, I can see him getting enough touches to get the attention of scouts.
Posted on 8/7/14 at 5:47 pm to AllBamaDoesIsWin
I don't think we've heavily used 3 backs since '08 and '09 but I could see us doing it this year. If nothing else, Drake is such a good change of pace.
