The LSU coaching staff has extended a preferred walk-on offer to placekicker and punter Tyson Shaw from Valdosta, GA.

Shaw has a five-star punter rating and a four-star kicker rating according to specialist rating site Kohl’s Kicking. He also played linebacker for his Lowndes County High School football team.

KOHL'S COMMENTS:
Shaw most recently competed at the National Scholarship Camp in July of 2017. He graded out at the 5.0 star level as a punter and 4.0 star level as a kicker. His overall hang-time and distance and consistency placed him in the top 20 nationally as a punter. He does need to continue to develop in the year to come, but Shaw is in a good position as a young punter. The progress he makes in the next year will be important to his value as a recruit! His punting score in July heading into his senior season was 104.2.

According to Dandy Don, Shaw has accepted that offer.

High schools kick from the 40. College is from the 35. Those 15 feet make a big difference because a lot of kickers try to overkick and kick the ball extra hard and end up pulling it OB or shanking it. I hope this kid is different.

Being a 4 star kicker and 5 star punter doesn't even get you a scholarship? Damn.

Best recruiting news all year, with the offense we're putting together, he'll be needed.

Pegleg Pete would be an upgrade from what we have at place kicker right now. Sign him up!

After this year of “can’t make a extra point” culp I happy with any competition

Hope he comes. Tracy only has one year, so having another kicker ready is imperative.

Nothing in DandyDon's tweet says that he is joining the team, simply that he received a spot (offer).

Not that the highlights are not extremely impressive. But go watch Cameron Gambles (whom we gave an actual scholarship to) highlights from high school. Dude was blasting it out of the endzone. He gets here and either kicks it out of bounds or it gets 1-2 yards into the endzone.

I hear ya about Gamble...he was always so nervy and inconsistent. Tyson is a bigger, stronger kid than Gamble, I think he'll be able to generate better results.

I tend to agree, was purely playing devil's advocate. I think a lot of Gamble's issues stemmed from Pevetos ridiculous game plans.
