Les Miles & Frank Wilson Talk About 2016 Class, Upcoming Recruiting Camp

Speaking at the LHSAA Summer Coaches Clinic in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, LSU head coach Les Miles and running back coach Frank Wilson got a chance to discuss the Tigers No. 1 recruiting class for 2016.

LSU currently has 17 verbal commits for 2016 and can sign as many as 26 players according to coach Wilson. Ross Dellenger with The Advocate reports that LSU expects 2 of those verbal commitments, QB Felepie Franks and LB/DE Rahssan Thornton, to enroll early.

The coaching staff is looking to possibly add a few commitments this weekend as LSU is hosting many top prospects from around the country for a star studded football camp that begins on campus Thursday.

Coach Wilson hopes to fill the remaining spots with linebackers, defensive lineman, a running back and receivers, according to The Advocate:

“I think we’ve got some spots still at the defensive line position, more than anything at the defensive end position, we need to fill,” Wilson said. “A couple of linebackers we got to get in the boat and then, offensively, we’ve got a need at the tailback position and a couple of receivers.

Coach Miles also talked about the idea of getting rid of National Signing Day, a concept that a few SEC coaches have suggested in the recent past, and one that Miles might agree with.

“That would be so cool. I’d be for that,” Miles said. “To me, that is exactly what the prospect wants. If it’s an offer and I’ve just been gathering offers and it’s one of many, I don’t sign, but if it’s the one I want to go to then heck yeah, let’s sign that guy.”
