Update: South Carolina officially announces that Jordan Burch has signed with the Gamecocks.

The recruiting battle for five-star defensive end Jordan Burch between LSU and South Carolina will likely continue on past National Signing Day.

Burch, a native Columbia, South Carolina, committed to the Gamecocks over LSU during the Early Signing Period on Dec. 18 but never signed with a school.

That same trend continued Wednesday on National Signing Day when Burch reportedly signed with South Carolina but did not turn his letter of intent to the University, according to multiple reports.

As a result, South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp was not allowed to comment on his recruitment, and Burch and his family declined interviews with the media after his signing ceremony. Per The State:

And in yet another twist in a recruitment full of secrecy and speculation, Burch once again skipped interviews after the ceremony, and his mother declined to say whether he had signed his LOI. The Post and Courier reported that Burch briefly indicated he had, but Hammond coach Erik Kimrey said he was unsure if he had or not.

As of Muschamp’s 4:30 p.m. press conference Wednesday, the program has yet to acknowledge Burch, meaning he hasn’t sent in his letter of intent. Huntley was officially recognized by USC after his ceremony Wednesday and Muschamp spoke on him during his press conference.
Until Burch officially signs with a school, other universities will be allowed to recruit and maintain contact with him. That includes Coach O and LSU, where Burch visited two weeks ago.

This kid is obviously under a tremendous amount of pressure to stay home

The longer this goes, the better this is for LSU. I have a feeling this kid might end up being a tiger. That would be awesome. But at the end of the day I truly hope he does what’s right for himself, not us.

Everyone at the ceremony was signing to USCe, Muschamp in the crowd, It would be tough to flip right then and there. Maybe Mom and son agreed to LSU and just wanted to do it in a better setting.

If you want to go to SC, go to SC. If you want to go to LSU, go to LSU.

These are big decisions for a kid, LSU is the better program but there is no place like home. It’s a good sign if he does not want to back on his word, he is learning valuable shite about life.

it he stays healthy he will go pro and make a lot of money no matter which school he goes to. LSU offers a chance to play for championships. The question how much does that matter to him.

There is a question also regarding whether he wants to be with a coach that has a very high probability of being fired after 1 year. USCe is a very unstable program.

Mom wants a new Escalade and a gas card. SC offered a Highlander Hybrid.

Muschamp’s presence there was telling and intimidating......the pomp and circumstance was not conducive to him going with LSU because it would’ve created some pretty good drama and he doesn’t really seem drawn to that. I will say, if Boomer is not there, he may have gone with LSU at that point.

I guess Muschamp was there under the pretense of just being there for his son?

It’s a big deal, I get it. I have 3 kids getting close to college. They are not 5 star players with possible nfl futures, but they will make decisions that shape their futures. At some point, you have to let your kids choose their own their paths. Idk if that is the case here, but it’s clear he has some people with way too much influence on him. Let the boy pick his own path family.

So, isn’t signing day a deadline? Players can just sign later?

Signing day is actually the first day in which players CAN sign. They can sign up until either fall camp or first day of season (can’t remember which)
