McKnight has built Hudson Catholic into a top program, while Cunningham played in college at Rutgers.

"We are saddened to hear of an accident involving Brad Cunningham, Coach McKnight and four others last night. Brad Cunningham, member of our first recruiting class, laid the foundation of the Rutgers football program. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brad’s family and the entire Hudson Catholic football family," Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano wrote.

The local high school football world is devastated.

"Devastating news in the NJ HS football community today as Hudson Catholic head coach Lamar McKnight has tragically passed away. McKnight influenced countless players and young men during his coaching career. Our thoughts are with his loved ones in this tough time," one fan wrote.

"Prayers to Lamar McKnight’s family, the Hudson Catholic community, and all the lives lost. My heart is with all the families impacted during this difficult time. Lamar’s passion for coaching and genuine love for his players was unconditional. His spirit must live on!" one fan added.
