So, Han Solo is dead. Anybody else having a hard time coming to grips with this tragic loss?

I feel worst of all for Chewbacca. They've been pals for decades.

Good to see Chewy moving Onward toward new adventures in the Millenium Falcon though with R2 and the new politically correct female Jedi hero.

Kylo Ren was the biggest bitch in bad guy history.

Yep. He was pretty unintimidating. But, I think that was on purpose.

He's the aspiring evil and ruthless Darth Vader wannabe. But they also had to make you believe that he is the wayward son of Han Solo and Princess Leia.

Killing his dad....one of my all time heroes makes him ruthless fricking scum though. And I look forward to Chewbacca ripping his nuts off and watching him bleed out in the next episode.

Kylo Ren is no Darth Vader, but after thinking about it, I like him.

He truly became Kylo Ren after killing Han.

It's clear that he has much training to do, and I bet (hope) he'll be more of a badass in the next film. Darker, more powerful, and with a badass scar.

Kylo Ren and Rey will be rivals, both becoming stronger in the force as time goes on.

Also, I liked how Han died. It mirrored Kenobi's death from A New Hope.

I think we're meant to empathize with him more. He even takes his mask off and shows that he's human.

I don't see how anyone could empathize with someone who betrays his uncle and then kills his own father in such a cowardly way.

I think it's the opposite of empathy that they want us to have.

I think we're meant to see a big nosed kid that doesn't even have to shave yet cross over to the dark side before our eyes........and complete his transformation into evil.

And for us to hate his fricking guts for it.

I agree but that makes it worse to me. I want Darth Maul apprentices, not some dude that treats being a bad guy like a drunk sorority girl trying to make the decision to go all the way with one of her sisters or just catch a finger.

I'm admittedly not a huge Star Wars fan so maybe it's above me but don't understand the 2 minute staring contest between Luke and Rey or why everyone thinks Rey is his daughter. Aren't Jedi supposed to have no attachments? Isn't getting his dick wet what turned Anakin to the Darkside? Why would Luke go the same route then drop his daughter off on a piece of shite planet? Wouldn't that make him a shitty Jedi AND a shitty father? Maybe I'm reading too far into it.

Was one of the most powerful things I've seen on a movie screen in probably 30 years. Or how ever long ago it was when I saw the original Star Wars .

I was always more of a Han Solo fan. (R.I.P. dammit!!!) But, having been fortunate enough to grow up during most of the original Star Wars phenomenon, and knowing what it means to those of us who did, I will just say this...... Seeing these people back on a movie screen is Powerful shite. And the ending was perfect.

Maybe Luke knew that the Empire would never rest until they found him or his daughter and that, as much as it may hurt, the safest move was to abandon her so that they couldn't get to her? I'm not convinced that she's his daughter though.

Who was the dude in the very beginning that gave the resistance pilot hotshot dude the missing puzzle piece to Luke's whereabouts? And why was this happening on the same planet where Ray lives?

The answer is somewhere in there, I believe. I don't think she was as "abandoned" as they are leading on.

Agreed, Kylo being immature is part of watching his growth toward becoming the next "Vader". Anakin went through the same type of rage-fueled tantrums before eventually becoming the Vader we all knew (and feared as a bad guy). It's clear that Supreme Leader Snoke has plans to mold him into a more powerful enforcer and that is where the balance and discipline will come into play. I think even Kylo knows he must work harder because he suddenly encountered another force-sensitive person (Rey) who seems to have a great deal of potential.

It was made clear in the movie that in the previous 30 years, after the fall of the Empire, that the Jedi had been hunted down and exterminated. Had Luke stayed with Rey, she would have been inevitably hunted down in the same way for fear of what she could become. I would reason that he left her with someone he trusted to keep her safely away from him and those who would eventually come for him.

And I can only guess at this point that she is his daughter, but it makes sense. His speech about the force that was reprised for the trailers is likely the conversation that he and Rey will have early on in the next movie. May not be the daughter, but there has to be some familial connection in there somewhere.

Something crucial to remember is that when Rey called Luke's Saber to her, overpowering Kylo during the duel on Starkiller Base, the music swelled to Luke's theme. Most folks assume that this is just a generic SW anthem, but it's been established as a Skywalker family theme. (Look to the end of RotS and all throughout the OT).

It's possible that Rey isn't a Skywalker, (most easily explainable as Luke's daughter), but Luke's VO in the initial trailer is a re-record from RotJ where he's telling Leia about the Force being strong in his family.

Another prevalent theory (that some have touched on in the SECR Movie board) is that Snoke is Darth Plagueis. He might not have defeated death, but he could be hanging out in the galaxy as a Sith ghost, a la Obi-Wan and Yoda.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Ewan MacGregor and Frank Oz reported to Bad Robot for original VO work for Rey's vision. Apparently they had MacGregor's audio sync up with Alec Guinness' archival voice track so it's both Obi-Wans voice she hears. Very cool.

I though the ghost thing was something Liam Neeson figured out and was a Jedi only thing?

Most likely. Did that guy have black face on and a freshly misted jehri curl wig?

If so, yes.

EP. III at the Opera, Palpatine tells Anakin that Darth Plagueis spent his life's work trying to find a way to achieve immortality. (Before Apprentice Sheev filled his ear with poison, Hamlet-style). Based on that foundation, I'd say it was a bit of a Jedi-Sith arms race.

Also, maybe grasping at straws, since most EU stuff was tossed out but other tenets seem to be relabeled as canon since JJ Abrams and the writers clearly took inspiration from certain plot lines- there's a pretty well-established history of Sith ghosts being able to corrupt Jedi Apprentices centuries after their deaths. Exar Kun in the Yavin IV temple being the most famous.

Yes, but he did alter it in the re-recording for the trailer where he says "and you have it, too." We don't yet know who the "you" is, but it could be Rey.

I'm relatively certain that Snoke is his own entity, and definitely not a ghost. I saw it hypothesized somewhere that Snoke could be Plaguies...assuming Plaguies discovered how to manipulate midiclorians allowing him to cheat death. But it seems to be consensus that only the light side force wielders are able to exist as spirits, one with the force. Sith seem to be bound to mortal existence only.

What if our admins haven't seen the movie, and so they're scared to click on this thread?

Maybe we have a temporary freedom zone.

Hey, which admin do you think is a bigger busybody power-drunk dipshit, DGD or Lew?

I say it's a tie.

Without even getting bogged down by the disaster that are midichlorians, I imagine hat there could be a Sith holocron or some such device that Snoke's spirit is bound to, if indeed he were Plagueis. Maybe that's a reach. For Snoke to order Ren to come to him, though implies that he's in hiding of sorts, or sequestered away some place safe.
