Further explanation in the link, but the TL;DR is that this guy thinks Ren killed his father to legitimize his position in an effort to get close to Snoke... to kill him.

Han's death mirrored the fight between DV and Luke when Luke got his hand cut off.

Finally saw it. Abrams did a great job to carry through the cinematic feel of the original series and not the cartoony crap of 1-3. Also, it was pretty similar to the first film in storyline but who cares? There are a lot of directions they can take it from here. A few thoughts...
I got chills seeing the Falcon and X Wings doing their thing...no kidding...just a testimony to how big a deal Star Wars was when I was a kid and how those things stick with you.
I think a female Jedi lead will be awesome. I'm down with watching Rae develop into a badass Jedi chick. I thought it was cool when she got her force on near the end.
Ren was a little weak in the Lightsaber dept but I'm willing to buy the wound slowed him down. Also, he was kind of toying around for the most part. I really liked the way they portrayed his force powers...stopping the blaster bolt was really cool.
Finn? Eh... However, I like the story of a defected Stormtrooper. There's more to his story than they let on....c'mon....do I really need to point out a possible Lando connection since hI'm and Mace Windu were the only black guys in the Star Wars universe. I bet when he awakens he'll remember something..:
As far as theories....I'm going with Rae as Luke's daughter put into exile when he lost control of Ren. That explains her flashback and instant force badassery.
Han ....damn...just damn. He was my favorite as a kid. I didn't get the Lightsaber struggle on the bridge. Was he trying to take Ren's lightsaber? He surely didn't know what was about to happen.
There obviously will have to be a dark side struggle too....will it be Rae and Finn has to bring her back?
All in all...it was light years better than the other 3 and Abrams did a great job. I can't wait to see how this pans out. I'm getting to live it through my two young boys too which makes it even cooler.

I would love to see Disney fire up an Old Republic storyline. That timeline is ripe for the picking and not as incumbered with the current canon. If Marvel can churn out overlapping trilogies left and right I don't see why not.
Plus a universe full of Jedi and Sith duking it out would be much more entertaining than all of these upstarts trying to figure things out.
BTW....has there ever been a movie with more previews? We had over 30 mins before the movie started.

The official timeline for the next 5 movies is laid out through 2019, and it's going to be an exciting time to be a SW junkie - especially when it took us 38 years to get 7 movies, and now we get 5 in 4 years.
