Does your definition of the United States being a free country include employers picking who works for them? Cause that is included in how I determine a free country.

[quote]I simply said it is wrong for anyone to be fired for giving their opinion. Shows like this should ignore it and allow the free market to work. If peoiple are offended by what he said and stop watching, then the show will be off the air,

I agree but unfortunately we live in the United States of the offended. The U.S. has become a pussified version of its former self. A country where the minority now seems to rule. The gay community pushes their agenda at every turn and heaven help anyone who gets in their way. Political correctness has replaced common sense.

If they want acceptance, this is NOT the way to get it.

Yep, and if Robertson had hypothetically referred to Christianity as a fantasy there would have been zero fricks given by anyone included A&E and no action would have been taken by A&E. And of course if he had called Muhammad a war monger he would have been fired on the spot and received death threats from the Muslim community. Such is the world we live in.

What I find funny is how a lot of people are claiming its hate speech. Phil never said he hated anyone. He simply said he thought they were leading a sinful life. The person interviewing him asked him for examples of sin. He gave them his opinion. We live in a very sad world when you can't even voice your opinion when its asked of you without being labeled a hatemonger.

Also, A&E did nothing wrong either. It was a business decision, a bad one, but none the less one they had every right to make. Dropping your cash cow because he pissed off a bunch people that don't even contribute to their ratings seems a bit stupid (unless your sponsors and ad money started to pull out which is probably what they were scared of).

At the end of the day, Phil doesn't need the money and its probably working out pretty well for him as far as getting his message to the massess. He's been very open about using this platform to spread his christian beliefs. In one short interview, he has the entire country talking about it. He may not like the way its being spun by the media, but at least its out there.

I find it hilarious that people are upset that a privately owned company literally named ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT took action after some anti-gay remarks....

Have you seen the interviews with the DD crew where they said they were told by the network to stop praying before meals and stop saying Christian religious references?

And when the DD crew refused, the network then physically edited out prayer scenes and any time a religious reference was made.

Look, I'm not even religious, but this is some double-standard Liberal as frick bullshite that's happening in the TV and media world in general and this is just another bullshite example of the disease known as Liberalism.

The dude was asked about his religious beliefs and gave his opinion and the Liberal network was offended because of the politics of it. Nothing else. So frick them.

I thought they stopped being Arts and Entertainment the second they started airing reality TV shows.

I honestly had no idea who Phil Robertson was before reading this thread. I thought it was a coach at some other school. All I knew about Duck Dynasty was that it was another show capitalizing on making fun of white trash, and now I see their crap everywhere from christmas cds to lunch boxes. They had a great run. I'm sure they'll all be happy now that they can go back to their normal lives.

You clearly missed my joke. My point is a company named ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT is most likely chock full of homos. But I digress....

frick our government and our leader. Stand up for our country and Phil Robertson.

He forgot to say "not that there's anything wrong with that."

Like he could have said "homosexuality is like adultery and bestiality, not that there's anything wrong with that."

Seinfeld got away with it.

What's awesome about this country is that we actually aren't.

PR gave his commonly-held belief (by orthodox Christians) that homosexuality is a sin, just like a lot of things, and that he doesn't get what all the fuss is about with buttsex.

What I'm annoyed about is those who say "HE COMPARED IT TO BEASTIALITY!!!11!", as if they didn't read that he also compared sleeping around (heterosexual bootknocking) and being a drunkard to the same thing. He was just calling sin a sin, and he wasn't the first to do that (he was paraphrasing the Bible).

A lot of people (Non-Christians?) don't get that because an action is deemed immoral by the Biblical standard, that it doesn't mean that the perpetrator should be hated and despised. It's just the opposite. Every single person who has ever lived (save for one) is a sinner, so we all break the law of God somewhere. If PR was to "hate" gays, he would have to "hate" himself, his family, and everyone else in the world because everyone sins. He doesn't hate anyone, though (except maybe PETA)

A&E dug their grave and I hope the DD crew lowers the casket by switching networks.

Yep, hate the sin but love the sinner. It's a little known and poorly understood concept outside the Christian community.

I have no problem with Christianity.

However, I do have a problem with people trying to force their beliefs/hold others to their own personal belief standards. If he had said "I" choose to live by the Ten Commandments instead of "we" I would not have a problem whatsoever.

Just because I choose to believe something does not give me, or anyone else the right to hold others to that standard.

As far as Phil, the guy may be a lot of things but stupid is not one of them. He chose to express his opinion, knowing the shite storm that would ensue. He also knows that controversy leads to higher profits, Chickfila is all the evidence that you need.

As for A&E, they really didn't have much of a choice in the matter, as messed up as that is. They are a company whose mainn target audience is not nearly the same as the DD audience. It is just the world we live in, no matter how vehemently I disagree with it.

I fully appreciate your perspective. This is why evangelism is a huge turn-off for many non-Christians. However, being raised in a Christian family I understand that such people are sincere in wanting to help/save others by directing them towards Christianity. As such my tact is less harsh than yours in gently reminding them that their methods will likely not be effective in today's world. *translation: frick off*

Come on man. No one is trying to control another's speech. That's just hyperbole. Just stop. If I were to go on social media and start talking shite about my employer, should I get fired? Probably. Guess what. I can continue to talk shite about them after I'm fired. Same with Phil. He can continue to express his opinions to anyone who will listen. A&E can't control that. They're not the only outlet for his opinions. Don't be that guy who regurgitates the "party" line. Think for yourself man.

— it was all about the sick woman.
