The school system is at fault here. This is what happens when every single school requires their kids be picked up at noon. And ATL city schools typically call off class when the wind blows the wrong way, so I have no idea why they decided school should be in session yesterday. Who are the dumbfricks running this operation?

I agree actually. I think if they'd just simply given the kids a snow day, it would have alleviated most of this. Would have been no school traffic and also would have caused lots of parents to stay home with their kids instead of going to work which would further relieve the congestion.

If you put your child on a school bus or dropped em off at the front door, your just as guilty as the dumb asses running the Atlanta BOE,imo. If you felt safe enough to send em to school, why wouldn't the school system feel the same?

Kids on buses all night is just stupid on several levels. First of all, in the metro area, there shouldn't be a single bus route over 5 miles. So we aren't talking about a school bus trying to get from Brookhaven to Woodstock, see?

What kind of fricking dead beat parents can't get walk from their house along the bus route until they find it, then get their kid and maybe the neighbor's kids and march their little asses back home in the snow?

What parents are sitting on their sofa, watching CNN, waiting for the government to swoop in with a magic pinwheel to deliver their cold hungry children back home?

Is there something I'm missing? Maybe if the parents are actually stuck in traffic, an hour away, and can't get to them, but that seems like it would be an isolated incident to me.

Do they still celebrate Freeknik in Atlanta?

I blame the children. If they can't deal with the adversity of having to walk home in the snow, then how will they deal with the adversity of real life?

The children failed to take advantage of this experience, this was an opportunity to grow up a little this week.

It’s interesting to note………

That as the bee-hive dwellers of ATL start to point fingers and blame their hapless central-planners…..that in contrast to all of that garbage…..I am seeing where Church after Church after Church is opening their doors to the stranded ATL motorists.

I just want to point out......... that these churches didn’t have to be ordered into action by some plastic politician. They didn’t have to have their decisions coordinated by some tax-feeder parasite bureaucrat. And they certainly aren’t sending any phony politicians to go meet with the phony media to present some image to the boobs at home who are shaking their fists at the TV….threatening to “vote the bums out of office.”

Instead, these Churches are spontaneously reacting through their small communities to lend a hand and to help those in need……all on their own. And they are making a difference.

I realize that most of you have stopped reading by now, but it’s just a good reminder that we don’t need these central-planners to exist in order to survive and thrive. These fools can never ever solve all of your problems. In fact, this belief that they CAN solve your problems is actually one of the major sources of the problem we are seeing play out before our eyes right now…………

Yes, very clearly this is the only way we learn lessons in life. Also, the stranded motorists need to quit bitching. It's just a little bit of ice!

You're not missing anything...at what point as an adult do you grasp that subfreezing temps and moisture lead to bad conditions? Do you really need the mayor or gov to tell you that the roads are hazardous? Its not like this storm was a surprise.

Several friends of mine got their kids early and went home. Of course, we're native Georgians and don't rely on some Yankee to advise us as to when we can get our kids or when the roads are unsafe....

Good point, Jefferson.

Local churches and other citizens have given the most practical and immediate need, whereas the government sits on its thumbs thinking of how to spin the situation.

Bingo.

I called in to work in the morning, yankee boss from Chicago was irritated.

He called me back at 1pm to say "Good Call, I left early and am stuck in traffic blah blah"

Georgians know.

On TV, I'm watching confused angry yankees. Georgia natives are at home talking about it on facebook, drinking coffee, and playing with their kids in the snow.

I blame their parents.

If they weren't conditioned to believe that the government school system was suppose to educate and take care of their own children.....then maybe they would be a little more hands on, and could have paid attention to the weather and made a decision ON THEIR OWN to keep their children out of this mess.

But, that's not what this is about. It's about a comment I made where your friend Fatso was bitching and blaming UGA because he saw "twenty people bust their arse" four days after an ice storm......

Holy frick, you are so far off your rocker it's incomprehensible.

And notice, not only the dependence they have on their central planners

Dependence? So the governor or mayor making an announcement that people should probably not go to work when a winter storm rolls through mid-morning, is dependence? I left work at 11:30 and got home in 5 minutes. Many didn't.

ut also the naive faith they have in them to be able to save them from everything.............

again, what in the actual frick are you talking about? Making a suggestion is not dependence or faith. There's no way you're an actual real person who believes the bullshite you type.

Gov Deal allowed all state employees to leave at 10am.

He has no control over what private businesses and individual schools systems do.
