Dateline: January 28, 2014 - 23:15 UTC (11:15pm EST)

The latest reports on ATL-based Weather Channel are that 70% of the main interstates and bypasses are still bumper to bumper gridlock right now SIX HOURS after the 5pm rush hour………..

They are estimating that some will not get home until daybreak tomorrow

The pictures are depressing. Some have run out of gas. There are school buses full of children stuck in the grid-lock. Some giving up and abandoning their cars. And I’m sure we’ll hear some grim details tomorrow about people getting out of their cars to shite and piss in the street…..and the road-rage…. and maybe worse…….

My Question Is This: Do you suckers that live in that unnatural shite hol…..(sorry, I’ll be polite)….Do you people that live in Atlanta realize how vulnerable you are?

Do you realize what would happen if there was some sort of an event….something catastrophic..natural or otherwise…..that started a panic or required the need to immediately get out of that city?

It would NOT be pretty.

If I moved back to GA, I'd never live near ATL.

Just saw on the book of face that some of my old friends had to abandon their cars. Ridiculous.

No excuse for having those kids on the bus still. They had to know that snow was coming.

You are correct JD and you are one of the few people that are taking the correct angle on this.

That's like pretty much any major city. Some people need to make money and for a very large portion of the population of the US that requires getting a job in a major city

First house was near Executive Park. Then to Stone Mountain, Lilburn, Holly Springs.
Every time the city kept growing out to us until I finally quit the whole area. I was in the middle of Snowjam in the '80s. Took me 8 hours to get from Peachtree at 14th Street to Stone Mountain.
Sitting on 114 acres now 20 miles from the closest town with a building taller than 2 stories.

Something else you'll notice about the pic... and something you'll notice on any pic of metro ATL rush hour traffic, something you won't notice in pics of other cities' rush hour traffic...

Big Ol' frickin' Trucks. You could land a plane on those motherfrickers.

that's right... those are trucks, not buildings...

Think maybe some sort of truck bypass should be be constructed?

In fairness the disaster scenario you allude to could happen anywhere there's a heavy concentration of people. Just imagine what much of California will be like if they have a disastrous series of quakes all along the San Andreas Fault:

That's why I moved to Bremen, about 50 miles west of the logistical nightmare of Atlanta. Our children go to Bremen City Schools and fortunately that system had the common sense to cancel school today. My wife and I work from home so I have just been monitoring my friends who live in metro areas sufferings all day. Most have taken over 6 hours to travel 20 miles and many are not getting home tonight according to their updates. Many schools have dozens or more students having to spend the night at school tonight.

And glad we got the 4WD suburban. Drove to a gas station an hour ago easy as pie and saw every 2WD vehicle spinning around on the streets trying to get traction.

well what do you expect with a massive city with no viable extended public transportation?

Those California Liberals just can't take responsibility for anything. They have to blame someone else. Who is this Andrea and why is it her fault?

ive never seen anything like this before. truly insane! home depots and car dealerships are now being used for shelters! it's going to be a logistical nightmare trying to get people (with their gas cans) back to their cars.

we got 1-3 inches. But clearly the issue is the roads. nothing was salted beforehand and nothing can be salted now since the roads are still jammed pack.

Not true. All of the metro interstates were pre-treated. You are right about the inability to post-treat.

Snow had jack shite to do with the traffic. It was just the x factor. The x factor could be anything, as JD alluded to.
