Disagree. I think they will compete with Bama, even with Saban there, but will soon overtake LSU. They are about to have better facilities than LSU, already have a much better head coach, and will soon have equal or better athletes from talent rich Texas.

LSUNV - I think you missed the whole point. Taking the top recruits out of the state of Texas rather than all of them going to Texas or OU. That is Huge. A&M has taken like 6 or 7 of the top 10 DL in Texas. These guys typically went to Texas, OU or the Noles.

A&M is leading Texas now and my point is that if that continues, and A&M can Cherry Pick need positions like QB from anywhere - its going to be interesting.

Doing a 450 million dollar renovation to the stadium to make it biggest and nicest in SEC wont hurt.

My whole thread is actually about how the SEC is a different playing field - did you even read it.

Pepa - 1 recruit? really.

I think think this is an interesting topic.

This is the issue, you think by snagging them before OU and Texas does anything. You are not in the Big 12. frick Texas and OU. You don't have to compete with them anymore. You on a whole new playing field now.

I don't think you understand... we still have to recruit against OU and texas every year regardless, and the more players we can steal from them, the better.

What does the rant think about where the Aggies settle into the pecking order over next 10 years?

With A&M being in the SEC, and Sumlin at the helm, ya'll are going to win a lot of games. Truly NC calibre? If you can get the D athletes LSU/UA/UF/etc get, and a DC that can put them to use, sky is the limit, imo.

TAM already has surpassed Texas for the dominate recruiting program in-state. How long they can keep it is the question.

With their recruiting base, they will always be a big contender in the SEC West.

Bama has the advantage depth wise this year against TAM, and depth wise and schedule wise this year against LSU, but it will be tough as hell to come out of the SEC West undefeated after 2014.

I feel sorry for LSU with Florida on their schedule every year: Bama, TAM, and Florida is a killer every year. No other BCS program has three top-10 programs on their schedule every year like this.

Bama and TAM will probably face Florida 1/3 as often as LSU--big advantage schedule wise.

Bama probably faces South Caroline 1/3 as often as TAM--good advantage for Bama.

Bama should be favored to win the SEC West at least 30% more often than LSU and TAM just from their schedule advantage alone.

Two loss SEC champions will almost become the norm when the SEC goes to a 9 game schedule.

The 4-team playoff got here just in time for the SEC.

Honestly man, I like the schedule. I understand Coaches position, and he's right. But my perspective is that of a fan...I love UGA and UF as opponents. As Miles said "We like to think we are the only ones to go through this schedule." It's cheerleader talk but hell, it's a done deal, so put the best face forward and go.

Just by mentioning those two schools you kinda make my point for me. And get it straight, they have to recruit against a few SEC schools now

Is the A&M program bigger than its coach right now? That's the question. If Sumlin were to leave, would A&M regress or continue forward?

When A&M's program can change head coaches and still play for national championships without missing a beat, then they'll have something to talk about. But until then, don't expect anyone to set aside extra room on LSU and Bama's shelf.

It will be interesting to see how well Texas A&M does going forward, after Manziel, and possibly after Sumlin.

The benefit is that Texas A&M, so long as it continues to grow, shouldn't lose Sumlin to a "better job".

That said, Texas A&M, honestly, was only a 42-35 team in the previous 5 seasons before Manziel and Sumlin. They came to the school at the same time, essentially, so it's hard to determine if their success is the result of JFF's talent (see Chizik), Sumlin's coaching, or both.

Basically, some people made the same mistake after 2010. Auburn had gone undefeated, won a national title, and had a top 10 recruiting class in 2010 and 2011. Yet last year they didn't win a single SEC game.

A&M keeps recruiting like this they will be in the NC hunt in a few years. Maybe sooner. That depends on how JM handles this year and how the D plays.
But the SEC is a grind and A&M has to play the two most talented teams in the nation every year.
Also, the East is getting better. Good luck

OSU offered him like 3 weeks ago. His recruitment didn't go on long enough for OSU to really be in it. He's a good kid, but I think that is the consensus on OSU sites.

I wish we'd offered him 6 months ago

A&M does the same thing those programs do on offense but they do it against the best defenses in the country. My dream is to someday become an NFL quarterback, and I want the best training and the best preparation for that. That's in the SEC."

This. I see a lot of posters in denial, saying things such as "if Sumlin stays that long" and sarcastically "shoot for the stars". They have a lot of money and are in a deeper talent pool locally than LSU, Alabama, etc. They can definitely overcome tradition (which isn't even that bad) and be a top tier SEC team. And they're doing it right now. I don't see them going anywhere anytime soon

He hasn't done his homework then. Good QBs in the NFL play in every conference. The only QB in the first round this year was from the ACC. 2 of the top 5 qbs in the NFL are from the B1G. Only 1 of the top 5 QBs in the NFL is from the SEC in P. Manning.

I mean I said he was a great player and I wanted him at OSU; OSU offered him in very early May. That was too late in his decision making process to really go full board.

Why can't some people just be happy when they get a compliment on picking up a good player

A&M is a perennial top 10 team now? When did that happen? Outside of last season, the last time they finished in the AP Top 10 was 1994.
