I think he would be top 15, especially since after this season he'll be one of the winningest in league history with most of the passing records in his name.

If he is in the top 15, where is AJ? AJ would have to be higher.

Alabama fan here.

I'm dead serious. The dude only played for two years, combined for a total of only 93 tackles over that 2 year period, and had a total of only 4 INT over two years.

The only thing about Mathieu that made him fun to watch was his knack for the football and play-making ability. He wasn't an impressive cover-corner, and wasn't a head hunter. He just forced fumbles.

He probably wouldn't even make my top 25 list. Hell, he's not even among LSU's top 5 players over that period of time.

I agree. Making a top 5 list is pretty much impossible for me.

Sorry there are at least five guys in seven years I would take ahead of a skinny Redshirt Sophomore QB

You can call me butthurt but if I had a Heisman vote, Id of voted for JFF.

With that said, he lost to UF, lost to LSU, beat a shitty AU, MSU, OM, Arky team...beat Bama and a solid OU team.

His stats are padded thus far.

To say he's worthless is too far.

He's one of the best playmakers we'll ever see play in purple and gold, and he's now a free safety in the NFL.

Top 3:

Cam
Tebow
DMac

To me, this isn't really arguable.

You may be right. He was, at the very least, fun to watch. But I don't think there's any way his name deserves mention in a top 5 players since 2006 list. Patrick Petersen alone deserves a bigger presence on that list than Mathieu.

HB was a top 10 player because of his versatility.

He made game-changing play after game-changing play and was the MVP of a 13-1 LSU team.

Is not a better college player than Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, Darren McFadden, or Patrick Peterson.

He broke one off in UGA's arse when we were lookin' to shock the world in the '11 SECCG. That return completely changed the complexion of that game. What could've been a good game turned into a rout 'cause of that return & the momentum change at the end of the 1st half...

Had the honey badger not pissed away his college career I might put him in top 5 but
Cam
Manziel
Peterson
Tebow
Harvin

That's a pretty hefty bunch

I think if this were a list of top 5 or top 10 "playmakers", then you'd have to include him in the list.

But this is a list of the top 5 SEC players over the last 7 years. I think you have to take into account more than play making ability in order to put together a decent list. If we take into account his overall ability and what he did play to play, I think he's an above average player with great playmaking ability. Not a top 5 (or even 10) player.

And I do think you have to take into account what the players were able to accomplish in the time that they had. Had we seen him play for a full 3 or 4 years, I might have a different opinion. But you can't place him in front of players like Cam Newton, Tim Tebow, Patrick Peterson, Glenn Dorsey, Andre Smith, AJ Green, etc...

He was a great player because of his play-making ability. He was not a top 10 player if we take into account his role as a cover-corner or tackler, or anything else other than punt returner/fumble forcer.

Probably. I think it really depends on the type of stats he puts up. If that's the criteria for this list. If it's championships, then obviously AJ is there, but if it's numbers and overall talent, then Murray is ahead of him.
