Don't be so naive bro. His passing numbers are inflated because of him being such a running threat. Teams had to keep 8 in the box on every play to try and stop him (which most of the time they didn't). It's pretty easy for an average passer to put up big numbers when everyone is stacking the box.

Or he is just a better college passer than people give him credit for. I don't know why it is so hard for some to give him credit instead of constantly trying to downplay or explain away his numbers. Sure he was a threat, but then why didn't other running QBs or QBs with great RB's put up better numbers?

VaBamaMan, all the Heisman winners like my list and I would have put Run DMC too, but If AJ gets the 3peat he is on the list.

Concur. Something no else will have ever done, nor is likely to ever do again.

This is fair, IMO, just because Tebow was the leader of that team for 3 years, whereas Cam was a one time deal. And this is coming from someone that was pretty anti-Tebow during the hype period.

Dead serious, and Ingram won a Heisman IN COLLEGE for a reason.

Then yoy two and maybe some other Bama homers would be the only one. McCarron is a game manager, not a difference maker Certainly not even remotely close to one of the Top 5 players in the SEC the last 7 seasons. I wouldnt even put him Top 10. Just way too many actually GREAT players.

So what? Ron Dayne won a heisman. Doesn't mean he's OMG BEST PLAYER EVAR.

It was also pretty bad heisman year. Ingram can also LARGELY thank his OL more than his talent level for that one too, as we can clearly see now. Bama has built their OL full of NFL guys these days, any RB can have success behind it.

Trent Richardson was better than Mark Ingram, still wouldnt have him Top 5 though.

He made the difference in our game with yall last year. And I said IF AJ 3peats.

Heisman is a pretty big deal along with the other Heisman winners I had on my list.
List like these are very hard to narrow down to 5 guys so we used the Heisman winners (4 of them) and a guy that might do something that has never been done before, and likely never again.

Manziel is certainly worth it if he keeps up what he's accomplished, but he's still only got one year under his belt.

Cam Newton, in just one year, won a national title. Manziel blew two leads and almost a third. Cam, on the other hand, brought his team back from deficits.

I'm curious, did Manziel ever direct A&M to a come from behind victory?

Idiotic statement is idiotic.

quote:

I think if this were a list of top 5 or top 10 "playmakers", then you'd have to include him in the list.

what best player do you know of the wasn't a playmaker?

But this is a list of the top 5 SEC players over the last 7 years. I think you have to take into account more than play making ability in order to put together a decent list. If we take into account his overall ability and what he did play to play, I think he's an above average player with great playmaking ability. Not a top 5 (or even 10) player.

quote:

And I do think you have to take into account what the players were able to accomplish in the time that they had. Had we seen him play for a full 3 or 4 years, I might have a different opinion.

Cam Newton and Fairley only played one year too so what's your point. Mathieu changed many games on his own while playing nickel behind top 10 draft picks at CB and returning crucial kicks.

Well, Ole Miss was certainly a better than average team last year. La Tech...

My biggest knock on JFF to date is that, in the clutch against top defenses, he's sort of fallen flat.

Started out 9-0 at the end of the 1st qtr against LSU; loses 24-19.

Starts out 17-7 against Florida w/ 7 minutes left in the 2nd qtr, loses 20-17.

Starts out 20-0 against Alabama at the end of the 1st qtr, nearly loses the game but hangs on 29-24 (Alabama had two shots at the go ahead, but the D intercepts a pass on one and an offsides defender keeps A&M from punting).

In A&M's three biggest games, they jumped out to decent leads, only to watch them evaporate. I'm not saying he "sucks", but being outscored 24-10, 13-0, and 24-9 once defenses adjusted is not what happened, for example, to Cam Newton.

Trust me, as a Bama fan, saying anything positive about Cam makes my fingers burn as I type them too ;p

So you're knocking the freshman because he wasn't perfect. That's really the long and short of it.
