I had almost killed all the memory brain cells of that play with alcohol. Thanks. My liver sends it's regards.

A 57 yard field goal is not unheard of. The bad decision was not being ready for a possible return.

since its happened like two or three times in all of college football history, im going to go ahead and say the odds if it having happened are considerably lower than 35-40%

it happened twice in the same season

I think the decision to go for it on 4th down so deep in Auburn territory was the worst decision in the mix...you really don't have anyone on the team that can make a 30 yard FG?...that's crazy.

I also was shocked at how poorly coached Alabama looked in that game...stupid penalties, bad execution, lack of discipline...
'Bama just gave that game away...if that had been Miles, the whole slant of every highlight reel would have been all the bad decisions Miles made...Saban gets a pass from most everybody except level-headed Bama fans...which there are about 5...

It's hard to argue with you. Miles would have gotten drilled by the media and his own fans for the same decisions Saban made. Saban gets a pass because of prior success. He's still be best overall coach in football, but he scares the shite out of me in close games. If Saban can't dominate you with superior talent, I honestly give the edge to most other SEC coaches if it is close with a few minutes left in the 4th.

But 35-40%? You usually seem pretty logical. Are you drunk?

Buzzed. Let's say the odds are half that....maybe 15-20% it gets run back against a bunch of fat linemen, still a horrible call.

How many 57 yard FGs does Alabama have in their entire history?

A 57 yard attempt is dicey as hell, even at the NFL level.

I thought it was stupid at time

The horrible call was by the official by allowing 1 second to be put on the clock. I remember sitting there thinking that no one but Saban and Alabama would get that call. Not to sound bitter or anything but I thought it was pure karma, no need to analyze it more than that.

Of all the times Saban decides to be a revolutionary instead of conservative as hell, he sure picked the wrong one.

Saban has never been that great of a 'game day' coach, dating back to his days here at LSU.

Even when Bama had that game winning drive in 2012 to beat LSU, doubt seriously he had anything to actually do with that.

this. I couldn't believe they did that. You have to give him a shot at a short range kick. It would have likely won the game.

The kid can actually make that kick. He made a 54 yarder (with yards to spare) in high school against my high school. I actually thought it was gonna be good when he kicked it. Everyone giving him hell after the game last year was ridiculous. He's gonna be a stud.

It was glorious. I love that it's going to be forever etched as an iconic play in college football history.
