Yes, you may live within the boundaries of the USA, but if you didn't serve in the military (or go to the school), don't wear those colors.

That is one of the most idiotic comparisons I've ever heard.

Fan who didnt go to college or at least attended a much lesser college than the school for which they pull.

I didn't go to UGA nor any college for that matter so I am a sidewalk fan of UGA. I joined the USAF, you did not join any military branch so you are a sidewalk fan of the USA.

we go thru this every year and there's never a consensus. for certain, a sidewalk fan did not attend (or graduate) from the school he's a fan of.

he's free to select any school to be a fan of. but some true fans did not graduate from the school they are a fan of. they became fans because of various reasons and remain with their team thru thickness and thin.

the scummy sidewalk fan is one that switches to whomever is winning. these are the despicable types and are the ones that are the most obnoxious. right now, bama has a lot of these.

Honest question, if I was accepted into AU but wnt to an FBS school for the possibility of a sport and then couldn't play said sport and maintained my fandom for AU, does that make me a sidewalk fan?

See my post above yours.

It (sidewalk fan) seems to be used in a derogatory manner and is being grossly misused on this board if that is the accepted definition. People need to replace sidewalk with fair weather from here on out.

Sidewalk fans are the BEST. Every time I drive through the state of Arkansas, EVERYBODY support the hogs. You'll see license plates, flags, decals, shirts. Go to any gas station, HOG WILD with merchandise. You'd think the Razorbacks are a pro team. WHOLE damn state love those hogs and are hog wild. If it weren't for sidewalk fans, Arkansas wouldn't have one of the best fan bases in the SEC.

Wooo Pig Sooie....Razorbacks!!!!

The way I see it, if you're paying state taxes to support your school, then you're not exactly a sidewalk fan. Schools are not just for students to learn, but also institutions that provide many other services.

A sidewalk fan is exactly what it sounds like. You've never been on campus except on a Saturday, if that, you talk shite to alumni from other schools over football scores.

Yet you never went there. Sidewalk fans seem most attracted to schools that have the name of the State in the school's name, GT being the exception. They really love that stuff.

And they call radio shows and cry about how games ended up and start with "I loved them Dawgs, and my daddy loved them Dawgs..." That is 100% sidewalk fans.

Georgia Fan cries on radio

I grew up an Alabama fan, went and graduated from Auburn during the 6 in a row streak. I've never once waivered in my rooting for Bama. What is my label?

Why the frick would you cheer against your alma mater? You're literally rooting against your own interests for stupid childhood nostalgia?

How is he cheering against his interests? Is the value of his degree tied to the success of the football team?

So you are a sidewalk fan of the USA and the Carolina Panthers (insert Sunday in place of Saturday). Your thought process is as useful as a football bat.

I don't think Alabama has as many fans that jump from one team to another (whatever you would like to call them) as most want to point out. I think most Bama fans are always Bama fans. Some just come out of the woodwork more when we are winning, and hibernate when we are not. Not sure what you would call these fans, but even during the bad years they don't become Auburn fans, or LSU fans, etc. I think this is the type of fans popular teams have.

When I think of teams that have a lot of bandwagon type fans I think of Miami, USC Trojans, etc.

Bama has had a consistent large following for decades. I think the last game that didn't sell out was in 1988.

Exactly what "interests" does a graduate from any school gain or lose depending on how well the football team at their alma mater performs?

Maybe being around a cult of fans obsessed with one upping their big brother prevented me from being able to enjoy rooting for Auburn.
