Bryant was a notorious "poor mouther".
If you know anything about Bear you'd know he truly revered Neyland. Read a book.

Regardless, Bryant only faced Neyland while he was coaching at Kentucky.
So what? His Kentucky teams were good and if you're the best of all time you shouldn't go 0-8 or whatever it was against anybody.

It matters when the accomplishments of the 2 are pretty close. You're citing comparisons where 1 coach accomplished enough more than the other coach that h2h didn't matter. That's not really the case in Bear-Neyland.
Their accomplishments really aren't close though. Bryant won nearly twice as many games that Neyland did. Neyland won seven conference championships. Bryant won 15. There really isn't any case for Neyland being ranked ahead of Bryant.

You're really just talking longevity though which IMO has no place in this discussion. I mean Joe Paterno won like 100 more games than Bryant but there's no way I'd put him over Bear on any list.

Don't give me that shite. We both know you're doing this to get a rise. I'm very aware of what he thought of Robert Neyland. But that doesn't change the fact that Bryant was always poor-mouthing himself and his teams.

Go ahead and list every Alabama coach. Even Shula.

Take Bryant's time at Kentucky out then. Neyland coached Tennessee for 21 seasons. Bryant coached Alabama for 25 seasons. Then compare the results.

Gotta love Alabama fans who think that if you don't agree with their view of the world then you're just trolling or trying to get a rise out of them, like there's NO WAY one could have a differing opinion because their view is the only right one.

Who has argued that? Stop being obtuse.

That doesn't make any sense at all.

Yeah I know of the Kentucky years, just saying Neyland got Bear Bryant before he became the Bear Bryant we all know. I am not discounting Neyland, he is one of the greatest SEC coaches ever and will always be, but don't act like he was pounding away at Bryant during his prime.

My point of view? It is the point of view of anyone who has followed college football and has taken a point to look at the history of the game.

You just said that this isn't about longevity. So compare their similar runs at one school. Is that difficult to understand?

It's pretty obvious that I know more about college football history than you do and I don't agree.
Bear gets the benefit because there are still a lot of people living that remember when he coached. Very few remember Neyland at any point and none remember him in his prime so he gets glossed over. It's as simple as that.

Um, no. Your argument is invalid. Admit it.

Your sole argument is head-to-head before Bryant was even in his prime.
