I'm debating on Miami being tier 2. With their history I'm gonna say I agree but if you look at it today with no knowledge of the past, I'm not sure they are even tier 4 but it has been proven you can win their if you don't include discipline in the equation. You have to recruit the thugs from South Florida to win and this whole U image change isn't working. People will point to fan support but even in the days of Toretta, Irvin, Maryland, Kosar, Lamar Thomas and JJ they would only have one game where more than 30K showed up and that was FSU or Notre Lame.

USCe should be tier 4. They have had a heisman winner though.

Oh, and Aubie

It looks like they'll likely at this point be the 2nd or 3rd best job opening up this year.

USCw, then who?

I don't disagree, but SoCal isn't going after the same coach that USC will. West Coast teams typically hire west coast people, it seems to me.

Tier 1
Alabama
Florida
Georgia
LSU
Tennessee

Which one is no longer a "Blue Blood?" Any guesses? It seems to rhyme with a certain liquor "Hennessy". Actually Florida isn't elite anymore either. You aren't going to be getting any HOF coaches coming through there any more. McElwain may develop into one, but he's got a long way to go. UF should be Tier 2 possibly Tier 3. They are like Georgia and Tennessee. Those 3 should be Tier 2. Tier 1 should be Bama, LSU, Auburn. Tier 2- UF,UT,Georgia,Mizzou,Texas A&M, Tier 3- Arky, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Miss State; Tier 4- UK, Vandy

Also the fact that Kiffin left for another college job is a strike against it

USC, the actual USC, not the Gamepenises, is at the very top tier 1, plus it was Kiffin's dream job, it's not like he left us to coach at some nothing school like Texas A&M.

Given that the other USC fired Sark, IF Chip Kelly doesn't survive with the Eagles, I think that he's much more likely to go to USCw than USCe.

1). He coached in the PAC-12 already.
a) He knows the tendency of the PAC-12 teams
b) He knows the recruiting grounds in that part of the world.
c) His offensive style fits that league better than the SEC.

2). I think the Trojans can throw more money at a coach than the Gamecocks can.

Yep, I am sure we will never be able to hire anyone as great as Butch, Lane, and Derek. But, I can always dream I guess.

Tier 1 schools should only be losing coaches to the NFL. Stepping stone schools don't belong there

2 of those 3 are undefeated against you. Just keep that in mind.

Agree, but Kiffin was an extremely unique situation.

Hell, Urban Meyer used Florida as a stepping stone, is UF not a tier 1 program?

This was my thought as well as he describes a tier 1 job as a program a coach would never leave under normal circumstances.

Well then it highlights that this whole thing is arbitrary. Charlie Strong got the job in Austin because Jim Mora Jr thought staying at UCLA was better. Dennis Franchione left Tuscaloosa for College Station. Steve Spurrier stayed in Columbia instead of heading to Tuscaloosa.

Money is 80% of the equation. Recruiting success/ability to compete is the remaining 20%. If the school has a good recruiting base and is willing to spend money to stay competitive, then they are tier 1. Can the program get multiple top ten/top 15 recruiting classes? Can they meet all financial demands? Then that's it. That's all that makes them tier 1. No school can meet every unique situation.

Tier 1 jobs:

Alabama
Auburn
LSU
Texas A&M
Arkansas
Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
South Carolina
Michigan
Ohio State
Penn State
Nebraska
Notre Dame
Oklahoma
tu
USC
UCLA
Florida State
Clemson
Miami

Maybe a few others as well. Just ask yourself this question, when Nick Saban was a liar and a coward and left the Dolphins for Tuscaloosa... how many schools could he have gone to and won multiple national championships? A bunch. That's tier 1.

Literally.

The problem is recruiting. Tennessee has to go national - or at least regional to recruit. But now high school players were just being born the last time Tennessee won even a conference championship. They just don't remember Tennessee ever being big-time.

I'm 31 years old and it seems like I was a kid when they were last big time.

Some of these are debatable.
Some are on the fence.
Some are just completely, flat out wrong.

And? Tennessee has always recruited nationally and has the largest recruiting budget in the country for that very reason. A big plus for the future of UT football is the fact that TN high school football is getting better every year. The Nashville boom is very real.

The recruiting in state is improving considerably. But we've always had to recruit Nationally, so has Alabama, so has Michigan. We have a huge recruiting budget, not worried about that.

LSU was once in that exact same position, or do you try to block 90's LSU from your memories?
