A&M steals coaches from Alabama and LSU. We're a destination program.

It's amazing how many people think the elite jobs are just about in state recruiting.

Tennessee is definitely a tier 1 job.

LSU: Les Miles has been to two national title games. It’s not even clear he can coach on Saturdays.

OU and ND are plenty successful to get a top coach. The reason LSU was left off that list and aggie was included is simple. aTm has tons of momentum and money pouring in that gives them the edge over LSU/UGA/FSU

Mizzou too high

SEC coaching salaries (in millions):

Saban 7.5
Sumlin 5
Miles 4.7
Freeze 4.3
Pinkel 4.1
Malzahn-Richt-Mullen-Buleima 4
McElwain 3.5
Jones 3.2
Stoops 2.8
Mason 2.4

the OBC was 4th at 4.15

not accounting the large variation for bonuses(or penalties)

at this point, most schools outside of Vandy could pay more if they really had cause to do so, so it's more or less who will find the coach that is ACTUALLY WORTH MORE..

if you want to rank by state recruiting as a factor, you would have roughly 3 divisions:

Top Tier
Texas A&M, Florida
Mid Tier
Bama-AU-UGA-MU-UT-USC-LSU
Bottom Tier
Vandy-Ole Miss,MSt, UK

considering anything beyond those factors is mostly just fan blown assmoke and BS...

LOL

YOu know these type of things aren't decided one season at a time right?

So are you referring to the 9-4 average season of atm since sumlin has been there, the 3rd-5th place finishes in their division, or that their coach is in a shoe commercial?

atm is not a higher job than UGA, sorry.

Great point. I bet our players in the 90's had fond memories of the the 1951 team.

Richt is doing his best to make sure Aggie is a better job, not that it isn't already..

I don't think aTm is better than LSU or UGA or FSU Those could be interchangeable. I just think that if all these opened up right now aTm might be able to stretch the wallet more and would be willing to.(slight edge currently)

Your number one goal as a head coach is to win championships and if I were a head coach, I'd want to be at a school that has shown they can constantly win titles under numerous coaches. I mean yeah, a legendary coach can come into a "2nd tier" school and stack up 3-4 titles but does that them a great/attractive program? I don't think so.

Below is taken straight from the NCAA website. I only looked up SEC schools and know some of the programs below claim additional titles and some claim less but this gives us a general foundation.

FBS National Championships (NCAA)

Alabama 13
LSU 4
Florida 3
Auburn 2
Tennessee 2
Texas A&M 2
Arkansas 1
Georgia 1
Ole Miss 1

Number of Head Coaches who've won a National Championship(s)

5 Alabama
4 LSU
2 Florida
2 Auburn
2 Tennessee
2 Texas A&M
1 Arkansas
1 Georgia
1 Ole Miss

Tier one schools do not lose coaches to other colleges. There are like 5-7 tier one jobs in the country.

Then Alabama does not belong on the list. Coach Fran left for A&M.

On the other hand, the last coach to leave LSU for another school was Paul Deitzel, who left for Westpoint.
