Yep, I bet Richt sits there in his office and thinks to himself "you know, this would help us win, but that would look better on tRant."

Yeah but UGA was much better at the end of the season.

A 2007 SEC Championship Game between LSU and Georgia would have been one for the ages. I know I'm probably biased but I think UGA wins that game, mainly because Flynn and a few other LSU starters were out.

Was gonna say Arkansas 1998 (the year Tenn won the BCS, and the hawgs scared the shite out of them), but then I googled it. Forgot they lost 3 of the last 4 games

Vintage Houston Nutt. You're either riding emotional euphoria or mixing a bleach mojito.

The BCS formula was very peculiar back in the 2000s.

Question: Had Georgia played Bama in 2002 for the SEC Championship, would it have seriously affected the final BCS Poll enough to cause Georgia to leap Ohio State for the title game?

In Nutt's defense, it wasn't his fault that his QB tried to break his fall with the football.

Had Arkansas held on to win that game against Tennessee I think they would have won out.

No. OSU was undefeated. They narrowly escaped defeat to inferior opponents several times. It was extremely unlucky for UGA.

'77 Bama had a chance to set up,a three peat. But, as usual, the national media got on its knees for Notre Dame.

I only ask because the BCS formula was still being tweaked on a year-by-year basis in 2002.

I think they finally settled on a stable formula around 2005. But in 2002, who knows what might've transpired had the schedule been just a little different.

You're confused. We're not talking about two teams that played head-to-head and produced an observable result. We're speaking of a theoretical match up. When attempting to deduce the result of such a match up, one might take into consideration the talent of the players, considering that both teams were undefeated. Being a Florida fan, I can see why you would take it so personally that Miami has what is widely considered to be the best team of all time.

Both teams were phenomenal. However, Nebraska had the biggest challenge. They had to face Florida under Darth Visor and that Florida team was incredible. They went undefeated in the SEC without a team coming within 10 points of them. Also, an awesome FSU team under Bobby Bowden didn't come within 10 points of them either. People feared stepping on the field with Florida. Nebraska humbled them in a way I couldn't imagine. It looked like adults playing children.

They finished with an average margin of victory of 38.6 points. The closest game they had was a 14-point win against Washington State. The next closest game was 23 points...

Miami was just about equally incredible with an average margin of victory of 32.9 points. They killed the ranked teams they played like Nebraska did. However, Miami had an extremely close finish with VT in that 2-point win in the final regular season game. Oddly enough, they blew out Nebraska (under Frank Solich) in the championship game. However, that Nebraska team had 60+ posted on them in a loss to Colorodo in their last regular season game.

So to me, Nebraska gets the edge because they had to take on the Spurrier Empire with an undefeated team and made them look like pretenders.

What's the cutoff point? I see a team or two in the OP that lost a game by 3 touchdowns. Not gonna name any names

In the OP, I rank the best of those teams as 1) 1983 Auburn, 2) 2011 LSU, and 3) 1995 Florida.

Both 2011 LSU and 1995 Florida were embarrassed in their bowl games, but the 2012 BCS title game was 15-0 with 7:00 left. It was a travesty of an offensive performance, but at least the defense stayed on the field.

2012 Bama just had a much better staff.

I'm not sold that UGA had more defensive talent than Alabama in 2012. Offensive, sure.

Personally, I have to agree with the 1983 Auburn team, the 2011 LSU team, and the 1966 Alabama team.
