I'm over this game, but this needs to be entered on the record so I don't have to listen to uniformed rantards complaining about Arkansas' complaints about tonight's game.

Full count, 2 outs, bases loaded, tie game and the ump gift wraps USC the go-ahead run. Check out pitch #6 (which wasn't the only strike thrown by Arkansas which was called a ball tonight):

Biggest game of the season so far, pitcher makes a perfect pitch with the season on the line, and the ump fricks him. Wish I could say this was the only time I've ever seen something like this happen to my team, but unfortunately I've almost come to expect it.

Now, before you say "the ump had a tight strike zone, it went both ways," here's some called strikes against Arkansas that shows that's completely false:

The umpire of the game was Perry Costello, who officiated the Arkansas-Arizona State super regional game of 2010. ASU was a 1 seed and was hosting the super regional. ASU won both games against Arkansas (7-6, 7-5). Check out this comment regarding Costello's officiating from that series:

quote:

Game 1 was the worst umpired game I've ever seen by a home plate ump! Reference, I was a Major League scout for 7 yrs. and oversea scout for 11 more. The Red team [arkansas] had 4 dead straight center 3rd strikes not called. And the middle relief had to throw 40-60 pitches more due to the strike zone being as big as a tomato can. I'm glad the tv commentators called him out (most of the time they sugarcoat it). Perry Costello was removed from the minor leagues for that reason, inconsistent strike zone. He should be ashamed. Sun Devils did good job at taking so many pitches. If I was them I wouldn't have a swung at a single pitch.

In that game 1 of that super regional series umped by Costello, Arkansas threw 13 walks and ASU threw 3 walks.

Comments from other fellow SEC ranters regarding the officiating from tonight:

quote:

No dog in this hunt - the plate umpire was atrocious all night and most certainly seemed to favor Carolina. Funny how all the corner ring ups were against the hogs, but those very close calls that walked runs in, well, they were off the plate to that bat.

SEC wins either way but Arkansas really did get a raw deal out there tonight.

- Templars (LSU fan)

quote:

good game hogs. got some bad pitch calls but i cant feel bad. great season. hat off to all you hog fans. - thebearju (USC fan)

quote:

"this ump has taken away from what this game could have been one hell of a game.

I'm probably going to pull for SC in the title series, I think anyway, but this ump screwed this game."

"ump may have given SC a third straight title series appearance"

"and again sc doesn't score anything with the bat rather the call of the ump"

- catholictigerfan (LSU fan)

Arkansas pitcher's threw 9 walks, USC pitchers threw 2. box score

With the final score of 3-2, with 1 of USC's runs coming directly from a bad call, and a skewed strike zone in USC's favor all night, there is no debating the fact Arkansas was screwed out of a legitimate game with a legitimate outcome.

Now that that's settled, good luck in the finals USC. Beat those western fricks and make some more history.

That #6 pitch in the top image is a borderline call to me....according to that strike zone box, it is as much out of the zone as it is in it. Therefore, going by that, a call either way can be supported. In this case, it was called a ball....

IMO, the Umpire did do a poor job in the game. He was making bad calls that went against USC and Colby Holmes early in the game. He did seem to shift against the Razorbacks in the late innings however, especially in the last 2. But the bad calls went both ways over the course of the game. In any case, this umpire appears to have no business calling games in the College World Series...

So far we have an emoticon, someone saying only a piece of the ball was in the strike zone therefore it can be called a ball ( ), and a meme.

Typical responses...

All Arky fans can not talk about LSU fans bitching about bad calls in football this year.

Saying this:
quote:

I'm over this game,

and then posting the longest thread ever to argue balls and strikes has reflected badly on ALL Arky fans. I don't normally wish for the fans of an SEC school to be punished for the douchiness of just one poster, but this thread is on a whole new level of whining.<---That's "whining" and not "winning". Arky fans are intimately acquainted with one of those concepts while not having much experience with the other.

Actually the above responses pretty much run the gamut of all available responses that can be given by just 3 responders. Perhaps the 4th responder will provide a link of a Rick Astley youtube video or something....

huh? I literally have no idea what you're talking about...

I only speak for myself; not my problem you choose to hold everyone else responsible for my words.

We've already been "punished" by terrible officiating, which is where the whining comes from. You make no sense.

Nothing anyone does on this message board has anything to do with "winning."

Seriously, a thread arguing balls and strikes that took as much time as this one did to create doesn't deserve much in the way of replies.

This takes "butthurt" to a whole new level.

...and I realize that Jon Ham responded to my post, but I'm not going to read it just like I wouldn't try to understand the "logic" of a 15 year-old chick who is bi-polar, on her rag, and off of her depression meds. Sometimes you have to let them cry it out.

trasnlation: I just came in here bitching like the message board police, Jon Ham has made assertions I cannot refute, and now I'm just going to call him a girl and pretend I didn't read what he said.

Why don't you try to attack my message instead of me? Is it b/c you are incapable or do you really just love being a useless doosh?

You are arguing balls and strikes. There really is no need to attack your poorly thought out argument. I wish I could toss you from this meassage board like an ump would toss a player for arguing what you are.

You are seriously going to be ridiculed in the morning when everyone wakes up and reads this thread. Good luck

Solid thread. Enjoyable read; will do again. *bookmarked.

:inb4theBroylesCurse:

This thread will be a landmark msg board thread as it will be permitted as evidence in some eventual criminal trial of Mr. Costello.

I do think there is something to the Broyles Curse. The cliff notes are in 1966 a black kid tried out for the football team and was treated really, really, really bad by the team, coaches, and was injured and not given treatment, not given a chance. Literally used as a tackling dummy and not allowed in the locker room.

3 years later same student is shot the night before the Game of the Century. The guy endured crazy hardships in Fayetteville, became a lawyer, interrogated Clinton over Whitewater, disbarred eventually, yada yada yada. Ever since the only championships Arkansas has won has been by a black basketball coach, and an Irish track coach. Irish are essentially thought of as the non-swimmers of Western Europe.

It's much ado about nothing but I like the conspiracy of a good curse, and damn Notorious GOP's voodoo doll.

I'm not arguing anything. There's nothing to argue. The evidence is right there for everyone to see.

Yeah, I'll be ridiculed by rantards like you. However, there will be others who will read it and agree. It's funny you think I should care about taking ridicule from anyone on here.

Oh, and thanks for coming back to the thread. I thought you were done. You always have a place in my threads, even if we take some jabs back and forth.
