Except LSU's defense is better than Bama's defense this season. Come to think of it, so is their offense.
based on byu? Have fun getting your hopes up and then bitterly destroyed, again

I still don't understand the criticism of the kid. He's looked great in big moments and manages the game very well. Sure he had a few accuracy issues, but I would take Hurts in a heartbeat at LSU.

Jalen won't sniff the NFL as a quarterback.

Good God man... based on his true freshman season ?

Do any of you realize that 99% of QB's redshirt their freshman year for a good reason ? They are not ready yet !

The fact he beat out all the upperclassmen, and gave the team the best chance to win as a freshman was not his fault !

He may not ever play on Sundays, but for fricks sake it's too early to be saying that.

How many QB's grow up to play on Sundays ? lol

Whats wrong with being a good college QB ?

Was Tebow not a good QB at the college level ? Was he not a winner ? Why cant Hurts do the same ?

Some of the Bama fans have become flat out delusional.

Because he throws the ball more like Brandon and Treon Harris than Tebow. Any defense with really good players shut his shite down. He isn't a dual threat guy, he is a single threat guy.

McCarron, McElroy, Sims, and Coker all would have looked like total garbage vs that FSU D in their sophomore years.

None of the four even played QB before their Junior seasons.

Hurts is years ahead of all four.

He'd still need to improve his passing, which I'd have questions about given Gus' lack of QB development. But, if he did gradually get better throwing the ball he'd be dynamite in that scheme.

True enough. He definitely has the arm strength, and some of the long passes I've seen have been pretty pinpoint. It's his improvement (or lack thereof) in judgement everyone's waiting to see about, as I'm certain has been mentioned many times in this thread, though I'm not reading the whole thing to find out. Frankly, though, if Saban can't change that, I'm not sure it can be changed. Not because Saban is a QB guru -- he's not -- but he's a disciplinarian and his players tend to learn or die (metaphorically speaking.)

Just from what I saw last year, he could follow in the Cam model under Gus, though it's obviously extremely premature to actually make comparisons between the two.

Lets play QB's that redshirted, and had the opportunity to develop behind closed doors instead of under a microscope shall we ?

I'll start:

1. Tom Brady
2. Jameis Winston
3. Marcus Marriota
4. AJ McCarron didn't start till his Redshirt Sophomore season. I wonder if True Fresh McCarron could have produced the numbers that Hurts did ?

5. Johnny Manziel
6. Danny Etling
7. Matt Flynn
8. $cam Newton didn't play D1 ball till his junior year I believe.

Why does Hurts not get any credit for having to develop in front of the entire world unlike so many before him ?

Tebow thrived in spite of his passing mechanics, not because of them. Watch one of his games at UF closely -- he had this weird motion that...well, it's hard to describe without a bar graph and some Silly String.

all that matters - dude is a very good leader and can make plays, with his arm and his legs. I'm still waiting to see if he has improved much or not but I like Hurts back there and think he will help put bama in position to compete for a championship again. Time will tell.

He had a couple deep balls that looked very good. Some dropped passes by young receivers, a few bad throws. All in all a solid game. If he can become accurate on the mid-range he will be absolutely deadly given his running ability. I am very excited to see where he goes from here.

Pure delusional is a better word. Hurts is in his second season and already looks like a more accurate passer. He will be outstanding his Jr and SR year. Give it time you impatient bammers.

Yeah, he's 15-1 as a starter, and got his team the lead in the final minutes of the national championship game. Bama hasn't had a stats leading passing QB in a while. Someone mentioned Blake Sims setting records, but that offense was still heavy on RB.

hurts is a good leader of his team, but does he carry it on his shoulders like a Tim Tebow, Deshaun Watson, CAm Newton, etc.? those teams would not have competed and won championships without those qb's. point is there are lots of qb's who could lead Alabama into the playoffs with that supporting cast. see prior years - jake coker and blake sims.

give him his due, and allow that he is still young and may improve.

I just don't see it.

Can you name me 1 qb from Bama starting in the nfl?

As has been stated here in innumerable times, we care about production at Bama. Hope he does well in the NFL if given the opportunity, but I'd prefer that he wins championships at Bama rather than Lombardis at...wherever.

The thing I like about Jalen as much as any athletic ability is his poise. He fumbled his first play in college brushed it off like it never happened. His passing ability may be like a guy in his 2nd year but between the ears he's already a veteran.

it was the first game of the year against a top flight defense, let's pump the brakes.
