Remind me again how many years SEC titles Nick has?
Nice sentence structure.
Nick has 5 SEC titles. Spurrier has 6.
Nick has 4 National Titles. Spurrier has 1.

Stephen Orr Spurrier was a great coach and so entertaining. He really crushed it in the 90's at Florida and made Carolina relevant for the last decade. He even won an ACC championship at Duke early in his career. Brilliant guy, definitely a top 5 SEC coach in the last 30 years.
I am a bit disappointed he is not finishing out the season, I hope it isn't health related.
Just poured myself a drink to the Head Ball Coach. (He is the HBC, not the OBC for all of y'all calling him the Old Ball Coach).
Thanks for the memories.

Nick has coached against Spurrier 4 times and lost 3 times by margins of 32, 29, and 14.
Spurrier also won an ACC title at Duke (!) and win 11 games three straight years at SCAR.

Will miss him in the game and he certainly is a legend.
As a kid who grew up in the Tri Cities of North East TN in the 90's there was nothing more evil than Steve Spurrier.
For that reason I smile knowing that I was in attendance for the last TN matchup ever with Spurrier and we came home with the W.
I also like to think that our win over them in 2013 was the beginning of the end for him and we kept him from ever reaching the top again.
Hope you have a happy retirement HBC you've earned it.

Totally shocked and stunned. Wow...can't believe it, even as bad as SC is this year. I never thought it would happen mid-season. He has always been one of my favorite coaches, just because of his personality.
Selfishly, I was kinda hoping to see Derek Mason get a chance to beat him this weekend.

Odds that both USCs open up coaching vacancies on the same day????

I could never understand how a coach like Spurrier could actually be happy with a perennial also-ran like USCe, especially considering his years with UF. Surprised he stuck around this long.

Hard for me to believe he would just quit mid season without something else going on with him. Does he have Health issues?

There will never be another Darth Visor. He is a heck of a coach!

It's close, but Spurrier's Gator teams dominated the SEC at a high level than Saban's Bama teams.
Saban's Bama teams have been fortunate in the change of structure to national title scene, but coincidentally Spurrier's only national title came under almost the exact same scenario as Bama's most fortunate title game appearance in 2011.

Not sure. I hope he has no health issues. However, he's a bitch pussy quitter if not.

Exactly, really hope he has no health issues. Quiting mid season during a bad year screams spoiled old fart that cant handle losing. He said last year he was going to stick it out and wanted to win the sec at usc, you know where only a real coach could get it done, not like at Bama where anyone can win. He's run that mouth for so long and can't back it up anymore so he's just gonna run out the back door. Losing a lot of respect. Not that what I think matters to him. Quiting on those players mid season is low down pussy bitch shite.

First he was the the guy we hated.
Then he was the guy we loved to hate.
Then he was the guy we loved.
An SEC icon. He will be missed.
