I think he dreaded a beat down from Clemson at the end of the season.

Its going to have to be an up and comer. No great coach is going to want to come in and clean up this big of a mess. Once Cooper leaves this year there is nothing left but an FCS team.

Disagree. There is a lot of potential at Carolina for the right hire. The East is wide open with no dominant programs and no big name coaches to have to recruit against.

Doesn't matter, they have 0 players right now and they're recruiting is suppar at best right now, and about to take a nosedive.

Sudden retirement announcement on same day starting QB of alma mater is on front page for PED's and year long suspension?

Ol' Ball Coach taking one for the team.

Now I really wish we had scored a TD on that final drive. I clearly remember sitting in TS when his gators ran up 56 on LSU, throwing deep passes late in the 4th quarter & laughing in the locker room afterwards. So to score 52 on his last team would have been very very poetic justice.

So we have zero players right now and our recruiting is SUBPAR. How will it take a nose dive?

Bring in a good coach now, as opposed to the end of the season so he can start recruiting now.

I think everyone recruiting against him saying he was going to retire soon was hurting recruiting enough he decided it was just time to hang it up and hope they can salvage what they can. always liked SS.

Absolutely, but it will take 2 years minimum to start winning again. It's not like McElwain walking in to a team full of talent already.

"Spurrier had three 11-2 seasons, a 9-5 season they won the east, and 7 seasons of crap. Spurrier was desperate to get back in college. But he would have killed it at a program with a pulse. It's unfortunate."

He didn't want that.
