Just talked to my boss who's son is the qb coach. Said they were all surprised when he called them in this morning. Said he figured it was his last year but never thought he would do it mid season. Said GA was interviewed but they went with the RB coach. She said they were told a coach would not come from inside the coaching staff right now but they will all have a chance to interview with new coach if they want.

Also needed to add this,, quiting mid season after a terrible natural dissaster in the area when they probably need him the most really stinks. Just think how much shite CNS wohld have gotten if quit or left right after the tornadoes. But SOS will get a pass because people think he was witty with his smart arse comments aimed at rival fan bases over the years.

Bitter old man syndrome.

After reading all 13 page of this thread I have 2 observations:

1) the HBC will be missed. The man was a legend that I wish I'd gotten to see live at Kyle field. He's probably one of the most respected and beloved personalities in the sec.

2) LSU fans are 50% good people, and 50% whiny bitches who are still sore from the poundings in the 90s.

Well, it sort of goes with the territory, but this fricks up the worlds of a lot of assistants. They have ZERO idea what they will be doing or where next year. Also fricks up USCe recruiting.

I felt like this was unexpected. At least the part about it being midseason.

eta: I do hope that it's not stemming from some kind of medical issue or something of that nature.

Hopefully it's not a medical issue. Seems odd to not finish out the season.

I feel bad for USC players and fans. They've gone through a lot this season.

It's time. His act got old and the players saw thru him. The media saw thru him as well. Spurrier liked coaching games but he didn't like practicing and he admitted it. He put in less hours at the office than any other coach in the SEC and was proud of it. He admonished the other SEC coaches for working too hard.

He changed the SEC and Florida's football fortune in the 90's.

The Man deserves all the accolades he gets!

Kudos Steve Spurrier
Enjoy retirement

Y'all can rant all day long about how you hated the guy, but because his teams at Florida were beating the crap out of everyone in the 90s everyone got better, hired better coaches, got better facilities, recruited better. So far as I know he played by the rules. I'll miss the SOB.

According to sources, he still had one year of eligibility left when he graduated from Florida. He's going back to Qb the remainder of the season.

Without health issues for himself or family, I would be surprised at doing this mid season, but it's his call not mine.
He transformed the SEC into the power conference it is today. Kudos to him.
