To those saying LSU made him quit like we did Bear Bryant, I hate to ask but what's that about??? Yes I guess I should know.
LSU ended an 11-game losing streak to Bama in 1982, Bear's last year. So did Tennessee. LSU's win was pretty decisive even though the final was 20-10.
I don't think LSU made Bear quit. He was probably just tired, just like Spurrier.

Grateful for everything he did for us. Program is a lot stronger from him being here.
He helped get us the new Indoor Practice facilities, new weight rooms, new Player Suites, Dodie Academic Enrichment Center, and a mess of NFL level players and great wins
3 greatest years in USCe history, one of which was basically a play away from a title. So many what is for you guys-- especially with Lattimore.

this. Total bitch move and a terrible way to end a legendary coaching career. Cowards way out IMO.
I imagine there was some mutual agreement.

Spurrier transformed South Carolina into a program that actually has a chance to hire a good, long term coach. This place is completely different thanks to him.

I am surprised he didn't finish out the season, must really be distraught. Losing to UK 2 years in a row will do that to a coach.

Commitment fall out has officially started...
PJ Blue just tweeted he has decided to decommit from Carolina.

Man ignore these idiots. They're just mad he used to make us eat our shite.
Most LSU fans recognize his greatness, and would have given their right nut and first born to coach LSU through the 90s

Damn. I know Gamecock fans are happy, but I'm sad to see him go

Not very "legendary".
Kind d if like denying you couldn't hack it then fleeing to Bama?

Props to Spurrier for admitting when he was no longer the best person for the job (unlike Bowden and Paterno). I really hope he does TV. He left USCe in good enough shape that they should be able to lure a pretty decent coach.

I get him retiring. I do. It's time. I get announcing it early to give USC a head start on the coaching search. Quitting mid season and not coaching the rest of the year is a bitch move. You know that I'm right.

Its going to have to be an up and comer. No great coach is going to want to come in and clean up this big of a mess. Once Cooper leaves this year there is nothing left but an FCS team.

He could have coached anywhere he wanted and won championships. SC was very good with him, but he could have done what Saban did and join a known commodity.

You are lucky he didn't make your entire program shift their focus to nutria hunting while he was coaching UF.
He kinda did!

Not surprised. You could tell the awfulness of USC was killing Steve

Not sure if I would be surprised or not by this. I dont think anybody at AU thinks that Will would stay a long time.

I think the only reason he would do this is if he feels like he's lost his team and his ability to lead it. Sometimes you just know.

Well....who is going to kick UGAs arse now? Always did like seeing their season ruined 2 games in.

Has to be expected in this situation. Hopefully y'all wont lose out on too many of them, but can't fault a kid for stepping back and seeing who USC brings in before confirming his commitment.
