SEC Men's Soccer ...

How do you feel about the possibility - it's being discussed and appears to be a done deal in the near future - that the SEC is going to adopt men's soccer as a sponsored sport across the league?
Right now only South Carolina and Kentucky field men's soccer teams if I am not mistaken, and we both compete in Conf USA I believe .... Conf USA also supports Bama and UT's rowing teams. I know South Carolina does not support a men's Cross Country team preferring Soccer instead, not sure how it all balances-out. We're about to sponsor a women's Lacrosse team to compete against Florida and Vandy. Mizzou is the only school in the conference doing the wrastlin' thing.

I wouldn't mind it at all. Played soccer in high school and loved it

Title IX will make it tough.
AU has had a club team but for us to join the NCAA, we need two more womens sports.
NCAA needs to make bitching and judging sports.

It would take schollies from football
They better not reduce baseball anymore

Didn't Vandy have men's soccer?

We see enough flopping on the football fields already imo.
Lacrosse would be more entertaining.

I enjoyed playing soccer, but I think we should leave it to the Europeans/South Americans. Lacrosse, on the other hand, should be eliminated from earth.

They should add hockey instead. Much more exciting sport and the majority of SEC schools already have club teams.

Ditto on hockey. It's way more fun to watch, too.
edit: probably would require fewer scholarships too

what's the minimum number of participants for the SEC to adopt? I would think it would be 5 or so. I'd like for us to adopt it because the sport is exploding in this country and no doubt the best place to play is going to be the south due to weather conditions.
We'd probably have to add a few sports to get there. I think we are working on gymnastics so that's one and I remember Bill Byrne talking about women's bowling. Maybe between the two we'd have enough scholarships to add soccer. The good thing is soccer would be relatively inexpensive add since we already have a stadium and facilities set up for the women's team.

No it wouldn't. There's just as many people on a hockey team than a soccer team.

I would love to add both soccer and hockey. I played soccer through high school and would have tried to walk on at UA if they had a team in the NCAA.

I don't see it because of Title IX and the SEC will never lower the number of scholarships in the money making machine called football. Personally, I'd like to see it more than a lot of the sports that are out there and I think Mizzou could field a pretty good team being between Kansas City and St. Louis, 2 areas with strong youth and high school soccer.
I like the hockey idea too, but I just don't see it. New arenas are more expensive than new soccer fields. The quality of the hockey likely be down because, after all, it's a Yankee sport, not a southern sport.

Count me in as far as getting a gymnastics team at A&M.

UAH, the only southern hockey team, made the frozen four a few years ago.

UAH could join the SEC if we added hockey.
