Successful people are successful for a reason. It's because they can analyze things, look at data, decide on proper course of action given a set of circumstances. Football isn't rocket science. This isn't going to be a hard job. My dad could do it and he's barely a football fan. But he's good with data.
Are you a coach or a former player?

No. It's because the knuckle draggers on Internet boards don't need no womenfolk on no football committee.

Not all successful people fit this bill or are transitive to different career fields.

In this case you already have a candidate field who is specialized in the open position.

This is a multi billion dollar decision to be made, why not limit your potential targets for the position to experts in the field. Is it smart to take a risk on someone who is just a fan?

a former player?
I would not consider myself qualified or even remotely. Again this is a billion dollar industry. Would I love to do it? Of course. Do I think I could make a great decision? Of course. But I am no where near qualified nor is condoleeza.

Don't waste your time, this Mizzou fan is either a woman or some emasculated liberal.

I'm neither. I just don't think that a selection committee has to be made of former players and/or coaches to do the job.
What sport did Bud Selig play in school? What college did Roger Goodell play at? Walt Jocketty played what position? How about Bill DeWitt?
I reject your premise that a person has to play a sport to be able to effectively evaluate anything regarding the sport. It's been proven wrong thousands of times.

Right. Lots of amazing athletes fail as talent evaluators and businessmen/women. So..... I'll let you connect the dots.

Well I don't think a failure in his field qualifies a good applicant. This isn't an entry or lower level position here. This is cream of the crop.

So are all of us. Yet I would say, only maybe a couple should be on the committee. And that's being generous.

the selection committe will benefit from rice's major high level experience in moderating debate, facilitating conversation, managing large egos and findig ways to solve pretty big, as well as, petty problems.
it's not like they went out and randomly grabbed a donald trump just because he has been successful in the business world. the woman is very familiar with the administrative side of college and college athletics and, does actually watch cfb games, unlike many of the coaches who vote in one of the current polls and probably sees more cfb than some of the ad's who have been appointed to the committee.

Dye was of no mind to explain further. "I'm going hunting," he said. "If they [the Orangemen] wanted to win, they should have blocked the field goal."

And thats THE problem. People have this notion that evaluating teams is merely anlyzing stats (data) on a piece of paper which couldn't be farther from the truth.
Wouldn't surprise me if condi doesn't know the difference between a DT and a safety. But hey, she watches games therfore she's an expert on the sport

Wasn't Condi Rice the one who hired Tyrone Willingham (before he turned to complete shite at Notre Dame and Washington)
No. She was the provost when Willingham was hired...the chief budget and academic officer.
Ironically, Willingham reportedly will be on the committee also.

She turned down the Pac 10 Commissioner job. And she apparently recruits a lot for Stanford's football program.

You said football knowledge. One would assume that if you're an integral member of an interviewing committee for a football coach and over an athletic budget that you just might have a decent understanding of the sport.
You would think that wouldn't you? I wish that was always true.
After Croom and Merlins, one can understand where you're coming from.

Let Vegas determine who makes the playoffs. They'd probably be the most accurate.

Most of those people don't watch most games every weekend. I'll guarantee you that lots of top sportswriters in the east often don't stay up late to watch Pac games.

I would think that some might be more concerned about Willingham. Any chance that he might have a hard-on to screw ND?

I bet she does but either way it's not a very good argument IMO- she's not going to be determining who's the best DT or safety, it's about the team as a whole not individual positions.
Also, I'd rather have someone intelligent and capable of decision making like Condi over some half witted good old boy former player.
