You said football knowledge. One would assume that if you're an integral member of an interviewing committee for a football coach and over an athletic budget that you just might have a decent understanding of the sport. That's just a hunch.
But I'll be happily waiting on your list of millions who have more "knowlege".

I would prefer a true football insider. This feels like a PR "celebrity" appointment, but Rice is probably not as bad as most think.

Actually I think she will be fine her state department experience will serve her well in the committe environment. I do not really have a problem with her.
I just have to agree with and support what Dye says because well, he is Pat Dye and he is never wrong.

Tom Jernstedt is an NCAA basketball guy as well. Every single person appointed could have arguments made against them. Folks jumping on the bash Condi bandwagon have little arguments, if they don't make similar arguments against anyone picked.
As I said before, it's not going to be a difficult decision to pick the top 4 teams. The BIG issue, imo, will be how they seed them, especially if 2 from one conference make the cut and it appears obvious to fans, they are 1 and 2. Will the committee seed them for a potential rematch/all conference matchup. Or will they purposely seed them in round one to eliminate one, but guaranteeing one makes the game? That will be the hand wringing issue, I think.

You would think that wouldn't you? I wish that was always true.

Condi Rice is very bright. She is a fan of the game. She is a quick study. You don't have to have been a player to understand the game, nor do you have to be a genius (although she is pretty close)to be able to pick the best 4 teams for a playoff. Most folks who follow college football with some attention could get those picks right most of the time by season's end. If you look at some of the ridiculous votes in the Coaches Poll, I feel certain that she will be a better selector than some of those guys.

Had this committee been formed 45 years ago, Nixon would've been on it, while serving as President. Just think about that one

But seriously, if they were jonesing to put a woman on the committee why not pick a former sideline reporter or one of the women who call football games (like the lady who used to do all the early AM Big 10 games, don't know her name). Because it makes too much gd sense to put people on a college football committee who have actually been in or around actual college football. Putting Condi on the committee is borderline to picking a random fan out of the stands on a Saturday to join the committee.
And don't get me started on the idea of putting serving fricking AD's of BCS teams on the committee, what a load of horse shite that is.

that is exactly what i was going to say. as if sideline reporters have to know more than one thing at a time- coach what are you going to do differently in the 2nd half? coach- were you pleased with the play overall? good god, we could all be one then.

Not denying she's bright, and very good IN HER FIELD.
Her field is NOT FOOTBALL (regardless of how much or how little she knows about it.)
I do not believe she has any business trying to determine which teams are in the play offs.

All I know is that I'd trust pretty much anyone over Pat Dye to pick a playoff team. The guy's a drunk and doesn't know to wash his hands after sticking his fingers in the turf. It's perfectly possible for a smart, capable, educated person to understand how good a given team is without having spent his autumns in high school playing 3rd string DB just to elevate his chances of getting laid by girls too ugly to attract the attention of the star quarterback. I played high school ball (2nd string, bitches) and I'll freely admit I'd trust Rice over pretty much every football player I knew because, frick, she's smarter and more capable of objective analysis than any of them.
