He doesn't want them to, but I don't know how strict his no drinking policy is.

I'm sorry, but this is a case of rewarding bad behavior so he can try to show that their discipline is getting thru. Saban wants us to believe that thru his influence, Hand did not drive, yet he was so drunk that he walked to his car, started it, turned the lights on and passed out.

I equate that to a shoplifter being stopped before he leaves the store with the merchandise stuffed in his pants , then his parents claiming he was going to pay for it.

Hand is 21, so I believe what he meant was the drinking in excess at 4:30 AM part and putting himself in a situation where he ends up sleeping in a car and getting arrested.

These players have practice most days at 6am. There is a reason practice is that early....because nothing good happens after midnight, especially when you are a high profile athlete.

Would you say Saban has lost control of his team and locker room like Urban Meyer or Gene Chizik did?

You tell me.

Also, keep in mind, I don't think Urban Meyer nor Gene Chizik were great at player discipline. Also, I didn't care for Gus Malzahn's move when he didn't suspend the 4 players arrest for pot. Even though I don't think pot is a big deal, they still broke the law and should be punished. Doing things internally is a bitch move in most cases, not all, IMO.

No doubt. He would've been a slimeball at Texas, too. I don't think anyone disputes that. I think that's why a faction of the alumni who were Mack Brown supporters, like Joe Jamail, sabotaged the potential hiring. And Joe Jamail knew a slimeball when he saw one.

Any other coach but Saban would get ripped up for his comments.

Get drunk. Walk to car. Say to yourself "I probably shouldn't drive". Fall asleep in the car.

Pretty common occurrence.

I mean how the hell would anyone possibly get to a car from a bar? Incidentally, all hand really is guilty of is public intoxication (which is what this will get plead down to), which he would also be guilty of if he walked home from a bar or even just left a bar and walked to the street corner to catch an Uber. It's impossible to drink at a bar and not be guilty of public intoxication if a cop chooses to be a bitch about it

Hmm. Seems like if someone is sober enough to know that he's too drunk to drive, and decides not to drive, he would be sober enough to not turn on the vehicle, or turn it off once making the decision. Seems to me Hand attempted to drive, and just passed out. Thank God for him that he did it before setting out onto the open road....

Your school couldn't get Saban over Bama. Pretty clear cut.

Your definition of slimeball is questionable. Lol.

In the 3 seconds it takes to turn the car on and put it in gear?
