Bull shite. With the success Saban has had, if he lost 4 games one season, you can guarantee there would be a lot of chirping out of the Alabama fan base that it was time for Saban to move on.
That's just silly. Two straight years of non-competing for a title 9-3/8-4 type seasons? Yes, I agree. One of them? No, there wouldn't.

If he got another job probably paying 7-10 mil a year how would the family ever uproot?

Of course it's silly, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't happen all the same. You'd absolutely hear people talk if he lost 4 one season. I couldn't care less how unreasonable it would be, it'd still happen

You guys still think he's going to leave because somebody offers him a bunch of money? Really?

I suppose this is directed at non Ole Miss fans.
Yes 7-2 in 9 seasons screams Ole Miss has his number.

Oh, you'd hear people talk, as in the media. Hell, it happened this year after Ole Miss. Cowherd, Wolken, half the print media.
I don't think you'd hear it from Alabama people after one season of it. I do think you'd hear it from them after two seasons of it.

You should read more history books instead of getting your Bama history from sources like TigerinMiami.
It's the flipside of being phenomenonally successful. Your fans start thinking it's the natural order of things, and not the result of talented, dedicated men working their asses off to win.
It happened to Bryant. It'll happen to Saban.

my commentary wasn't about if he would

I see Saban getting frustrated with fan expectations now. I think he insulates himself as much as possible, but he doesn't seem like a man that likes the state of college football ball in that regard.

We just don't treat our coaches with that family respect like Auburn does I guess.

No there would be a few crazy Bama fans calling into radio shows and numerous LSU and Auburn fans calling and talking about how Bama fans are trying to run him off.

Saban has been frustrated with outside factors that he thinks could effect his players since roughly 1980. This is not new.

I mean, maybe, but his general demeanor is light years more relaxed and personable than it was the first 2-3 years he was around. In terms of seeming "happy", he is far more "happy" sounding and acting than he was in 2008. I don't think that means much other than I think the 2011 tornado and the grandkids have softened him a bit, but he's clearly not anywhere near as agitated at the slightest thing as he used to be (unless he wants to use something as a point to his players, which he still does quite frequently).

It would mainly be the national media, rival fans and less than 1% of the Bama fanbase.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I like and admire Saban and what he's accomplished at the Capstone. And I'll be the first to admit I'd be happy to see him hang it up sooner rather than later, because you aren't going to find another HC nearly as good.
But the truth is, if he starts to slip, a significant percentage of your fanbase will turn on him.

I dunno, the national media wouldn't overreact to one mediocre season.

Sure, if he has a 2-3 year stretch where we start averaging 3-4 losses, people will question him. And quite frankly, if that happens, they might be right.
I just don't believe that one 9-4 season is going to suddenly make 1/3 of the fanbase get their pitchforks out.

This article doesn't surprise me at all.
Knowing a couple people in the B'ham area, this has been knowledge for quite some time. Despite what some of these youngsters think not everybody is about big lights, big city. Nick like Central Alabama because it reminds him of his home. Don't think for a second Texas didn't put that money on the table either...unles they didn't as much as was reported. Nick stayed.
I know he left Baton Rouge but living in LA is not for everybody. Its a different animal in a lot of ways. I know Les talks about how he loves it but what's he supposed to say? I hate it here but I make good money?
Hey, I love BTR, New Orleans, especially the New Iberia area but I don't want to live there. No knock against it or its people but I'm not Cajun and prefer to live in small town Alabama. I've been offered the op to move to Jacksonville, FL, Nashville, Memphis, Chicago. I didn't even consider it. I'm in a small town 30 minutes from the interstate and plan to stay. Some people like that lifestyle as odd as some may deny that. Saban has made a home in Alabama. He has said many times he will retire to Burton but maintain a home here. His daughter and son are married to B'ham natives so the connection will always be there.
The only people that were convinced Saban would leave is LSU. This will anger some LSU folk but...LSU ain't Bama, not in football anyway. Good, solid program with some history but not an Alabama. Only 4 or 5 schools are and LSU ain't one.
