What's Saban going to do in retirement? He's a complete control freak. He'd have no outlet for that. He will be like Paterno and coach way past his prime

Speaking personally, I'm hoping he'll pull a Bryant and stick around a year longer than he should, just so all the Bama apologists singing his praises now will bitch how they need to "run off the old man before he damages the program".

Yeah, that's probably still a few years off. But it will happen.

It'll take more than one bad year for that to happen. It would take a Bowden downward slope.

If Saban goes 10-3 then 9-4 then people would get a bit restless. If he followed up 9-4 with 8-5 or 7-6 then you would get to the point you are discussing. But one random bad year ain't gonna do it.

That's from where he lives...on Lake Tuscaloosa and North River G & CC. I can imagine why he'd be dying to get away from that craphole!

Except Spurrier never really cared much about recruiting and by the end literally didn't do it at all.

I don't think anyone expects that to happen with Saban.

You should read more history books instead of getting your Bama history from sources like TigerinMiami.

The year before he retired Bryant's Alabama went undefeated in the SEC, tying also undefeated UGA for the title and took a #7 ranking into the Cotton Bowl before losing 14-12 to #6 Texas.

His last team entered November 7-1 and ranked in the top 10. Not one soul wanted to "run the old man off."

bullshite. With the success Saban has had, if he lost 4 games one season, you can guarantee there would be a lot of chirping out of the Alabama fan base that it was time for Saban to move on.

Bryant went 12-0, 10-2, 9-2-1 from '79-81 with an NC and two SECCs. Going into the '82 he had lost a grand total of four SEC games in the previous decade. After LSU handed him his 2nd conference loss that year the fanbase had already started to mutter about the game having passed him by.

tFear is real. He can't be there forever. Those are stories to just help the Bammers feel good and keep their souls at ease. Eventually, he gone

It's really sad that there are people who just have to sit and wait until another team's coach decides to retire before they can have any hope for success...that's the epitome of being totally owned by another team.
