Anytime an athlete doesn't end up on UT's roster, its either because
A) Mack decided to not offer them in the end, possibly due to character issues
B) Someone (likely an SEC school) is playing the pay-game, which UT is and always will be above. RSJ comes to mind.

Is UT still destroying their conference? Rutgers and UMass may want to join. You should take your poison elsewhere man. The common denominator isn't NU, CU, A&M and Mizzou, it's UT. The point on Kingsbury is he should be able to relate with Manziel. He was the BMOC at Tech and isn't that much older but he knew how to keep his stuff together and stay out of trouble. He also parlayed it into an NFL career and now being a fast rising coach. Maybe that works, maybe it doesn't but it certainly sounds promising.

I guess, but Cam Newton was BMOC at Auburn, never got in trouble after Florida, and parlayed that in to an NFL career. Does that make Cam a good mentor?

While everything you said is true, UT believes that they can go to any conference they want at any time, with or without the LHN. They CHOSE to stay in the Big 12, because they truly care about other in-state schools like TT, Baylor and TCU, unlike those mean Aggies.
In reality, all of the teams that had the ability to leave the Big 12 have left. UT can't have the LHN anywhere else, and the PAC won't take OU/OSU without UT, thus they are prisoners along with the other 9 teams. For WVU and TCU, they are just happy to be at the party and not in the Big East/MWC, even if they don't get full revenues for 5 years.
