There are minor warning signs about what he is like off the field, but nothing major.

My little brother was a walk-on his fish year (he's a junior now), but still hangs out/parties with the football players on a regular basis. His opinion of Johnny as a person is pretty low, but says he's a hell of an athlete, of course. Take that fwiw.

Personally, I choose to be a fan of Manziel the player.

Considering that describes the douchiness of Tom Brady...

That's not good to hear. I hope he is able to become a good representative of A&M. If he can't ever do that, I hope he is at least not self-destuctive or a locker room cancer.

No doubt JFF is a confident if not cocky SOB. He expected to win the QB battle. He expects to win every game he plays. He expects to be the best player on the field. That kind of guy is always going to rub some folks the wrong way.

FWIW, it does appear that he was humbled by the arrest over the Summer and got the realization that he could throw away his career if he didn't get it together. Then he went to work with the QB coach in California and became a real leader in Fall Practice. Personally I have never seen a QB play so much better from the Spring to the Fall. He's also clearly in some incredible physical shape, with all of his running all over the field Saturday he didn't even look like he was breathing hard. Listening to the other players talk about Manziel they clearly are awed by him to an extent. We will have to see if he can keep his ego under control though as the stage gets bigger and he becomes a bigger story. Personally I think Kingsbury is the perfect mentor for the kid, KK was a freaking God at Tech and was treated as such and he's only 33 and still single.

No one is saying JFF is an angel but it is a HUGE step from drinking underage at a bar to having a drug problem, or even an alcohol problem.

Why does this make him a good mentor? Kliff is a nice enough guy, but a mentor? That's a bit of TexAgs mentality group think.

Football players have all kinds of egos. They are oblivious at times to how their ego can rub people the wrong way, but if they work hard on top of it, I usually don't mind. I'm waiting to hear that Johnny is the unquestioned hardest worker on the offense. He currently is not, but that could change. Some people get a taste of success and work even harder. Some move in the opposite direction. We will see with Johnny.

Just to clarify, I was only relating my brother's account of his character, since he knows him and I don't. Personally, I don't have a problem with an arrogant QB. I want him supremely confident in his abilities and therefore less likely to wilt under pressure. Yes, I want him to be the best representative of A&M that he can be, but I want him to be a great player first and foremost.

Ideally I want a Matt Davis type leader. I wish he could be granted another red-shirt so we could get at least 2 years of him. Johnny is fine, but he's not a natural leader. Natural leaders are there day 1, like Matt. Is that a bad thing? I don't know. It could be, or it could be a non-factor. Manziel is a special player, there is no doubting that.

Every time I see a teasip post on this board I smile inside, regardless of what they say.

Your envy of Texas A&M is delicious. Let me taste your tears.

This is a smack talk board. I come onto it usually to troll aggies because it is easy. Every time an aggie rises to the bait, I win.

I'm going to guess if you go here you will find tons of threads from visiting horns discussing football with their true rival.
