I remember when UT didn't need a defense in 2012 because our offense was going to "outscore" everyone.

All losses. Moral of the story: in the SEC, defense is King.

On defense, possible. However, UGA will have the best offense in the SEC and could simply outscore everyone.
Bama has the best Qb in the nation throwing to the best recivers. UGA will not beat the Bama defence. You only wish your team was as good as UA.

Nobody does that, except for a few "glass is overflowingly full" type fans on message boards. Exaggerate much? The only time writers, talking heads, etc. have said we were a title contender in the last few decades was 2008, and there was a very good reason for that thinking. We went 10-3, but in August there were certainly reasons to think we had a chance.

It's really bad no matter who you have played. Your friend, the OP, asked the question if Georgia will be the mirror image of 2012 Alabama due to the talent UGA lost on defense. Such an argument is asinine because, while Alabama lost 8 starters off a defense that is among the greatest of all-time, they still finished #1 in the country in 3 of the 4 major defensive categories in 2012. Georgia is losing virtually all of its star players off a defense that finished #18 in Scoring Defense, #32 in Total Defense, and #80 in Rushing Defense.
How exactly can a comparison between 2012 Alabama and 2013 Georgia be made based off the above statistics?

When? I'm sure anythign looks like dick sucking since nobody says a peep about tennessee. I'm sure we've been mentioned several times as a "darkhorse" or a top 10 team, but 2008 is the only year where people have said "UGA is a national title team and one of the frontrunners". That's it.
Going into this year we're a top 10 team, but nobody is saying we're at the front of the title race.

It can't, most people will recognize the flawed rationale of the OP. But of course since he's a UGA fan the board will collectively think "all UGA fans are dumb and think they're going to win the title every single offseason". That simply isn't true.

I'm an old fart. GA has been GA since I can remember. Except for a year where they had a physical freak at running back they will always find a way to lose usually 2 games. And the 2 loss years are their good years.

To be fair, they were only a tipped pass away from winning it all last year. It just shows how little we all know about football. Luck is a bigger factor then people realize. But the answer to the question is no. UGA can be UGA and win it all, they dont need to mirror Bama.
