I think a program that has tons of potential to be great is Georgia. I'll never understand how Florida has won like 18 of the last 21 against them. Georgia is a very attractive school for a recruit and a coach.

I don't understand how UGA underachieves either. They have the recruiting base, facilities and $$$ to be dominant. They have to start beating UF maybe with a new coach. They have the potential to win the BCS easily.

1 and a half titles and the "one" is a joke.

J@ck@ss, though the "one" is in a season where LSU lost twice in 3OT, and the "half" a split with USC. It was actually the 2007 team with two losses, that was by far that season's best collegiate football team. Where the 2003 team would've been a large dog if vs USC(were +7 & +6.5 vs Okla in Nawlins).

Three unbeaten Auburn seasons in the last 17 years, and a "one for the thumb" vs Bama..yet sandwiched all around and in-between titleless Aubie..are multiple Natty Title crowns for LSU, Fla, and Bama..also the Vols with one..with only Bama's two and Tenn's one happening in unbeaten years.

Aubie soon to be in a three-way tie for alltime most probations..congrats!

Oklahoma, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State....all have pretty weak recruiting base.

We win on the field. You win in the newsrooms, congratulations. You lost to Kentucky and Arkansas, the latter being at home and in the last game of the season. Yes we should to that.

Nothing against Mark Richt, but I think they've gone as far as they can with him. If you can't win the SEC East w/ Stafford, Moreno, and AJ Green, ... not much hope for you. Held on to Willie Martinez too long. They need to turn it around or sooner or later mediocrity is going to impact recruiting. Downhill from there.

I agree with you on Nebraska and Michigan, and disagree with everything else. You have a plausible argument with Oklahoma, but somehow they've kept on top of the recruiting wars, so don't count out a team that can recruit the state of Texas that well.

Saying Notre Dame doesn't have a great recruiting base is just ludicrous. They have the #1 best and most stable recruiting base in all of CFB outside of maaaaybe Texas and Southern Cal.

It all comes crashing down for Aubie in TTown in 13 days.

RTR!!

P.S. After the Aub win over LSU, before Camgate broke, and before Fairley kept ramping up his thuggery(gave him benefit of doubt on the JJ powerslam)..I was happy Aub was gonna possibly win a BCS title..extend the SEC's streak..give it a fourth different school to cash in five years..

Now..hell no!..RTR!..and Go Cocks!

Auburn #17 alltime..just haven't cashed a NCAA Title in the modern era, or say last 25 to 40 years.

The best thing about that link is that they have to clearify that Auburn is in Alabama

Let's just take a step back and look at this without the bias that is inherent in this board clouding our vision.

Is Auburn in the elite patheon of football programs? No. Do we have a program that is solid all the way around, yes.

We are in the top 15 in all time wins, right behind LSU. We have consistently won games, we just don't have many NC hardware, but we've had those elite seasons where most teams would have won it in any given year.

We aren't even remotely close to a bad program, probably one of the top 13 or so in the country.

Oklahoma - I can't feel bad for a program just two hours north of Dallas.

Notre Dame - can still get into any catholic school kid's door.

Penn State - Pennsylvania is a very talent rich state. They have New Jersey and Maryland to siphon off of as well.

Ohio State - the state of Ohio is loaded. Plain and simple.

I don't think you can be considered top 13 in the country when you haven't won a BCS title. Sorry. But I would agree that Auburn has a solid program. However, after what I've seen with Cam and Fairley on the field the last 2 weeks, with the thugging and mugging for the camera, not sure I can pull for them ever again. And in the past, Auburn was one of my favorite SEC teams outside of LSU.

If you notice, I am responding to the Aubie fan that says LSU has only won 1-1/2 titles, and who stated that Auburn "wins them on the field", and LSU wins them via the media.

Check his posts.

Programs are built on history, not one year. And we've got history. Top 15 in all time wins, we had one decade in particular where we ruled the conference (80s). I think we'd be around #13, give or take a few spots.

I hear you. And with the number of wins you have, I agree Auburn is a solid college football program. IMO, top 25 or so.

To be considered "Elite", and at the level of #13, I just think there needs to be a National Championship somewhere in there, at least in modern history.

But, that's just my subjective opinion. Everybody talks about Elite programs, but no one has yet to define how that word is being used in this discussion.

'93, '04, and this year would give them pub.

But '93 was tainted, '04 was a screw job, and this year may be tainted as well. It's Auburn that stops Auburn from being considered elite IMHO.

Other than Alabama and Tennessee, most of the SEC didn't put a lot into football until after the 40s.

-Notre Dame signs like 1 recruit(or sometimes 0) from the state of Indiana every year. they have to recruit nationally.

-check out Oklahoma's roster or recruit list. over 80% of Oklahoma players are stolen from the state of Texas.

-state of Ohio has 4 Rivals100 recruits this year. not really bad, but nothing compared to some other recruiting hot beds.

-Pennsylvania has ONE Rivals100 recruit. Northern states aren't that talent rich compared to the South, period.

-Nebraska has as much in-state talent as South Dakota.

my point is you can steal recruits from other states and still win.
