Who do you think we could have hired better????

Look on the bright side.

I think Mullen will eventually do pretty well at State. The fact that he's not doing so well right now will keep other schools from poaching him, and give him time to lay down his infrastructure and try to get things organized.

Hypothetical Mississippi State question

Man that's hard to answer....and it's not.

You gotta go get a coach. This is the SEC West...Petrino, Saban, Malzahn and Miles(AkA..Grass Eater).

Mullen is a good coach but let's face it, he is just fighting the idiot for 5th.

That's my assessment.

Bingo!

Well said. Atleast that's what us State fans are hoping for.

I think MSU fans should expect that 8-4 is a solid year. 9-3 is awesome. If the team can go 4-4 or better in the SEC and win their non-conference games, then it can be seen as very successful.

- Beat Ole Miss more than 50%
- Play LSU, Bama, and Auburn competitively, but it will be less that 50%

MSU could do better than Mullen, IMO. You'll have to take a chance and then have it be a homerun hire. then you have to hope you've done enough for that home run to make him want to stay for a long-time (read: help him cheat successfully in recruiting while keeping him in position of plausable deniability).

Go after Hudspeth, Smart, Gus, Manny Diaz, Clemson's OC, or Rich Rod. ALL would be better than Dan Mullen.

How does Dan Mullen or any future Head Coach fix this? How can we compete in recruiting against Bama, LSU, and Auburn?

Pay the $180k?

Seriously though, I actually thought Croom was going to give State a big push in recruiting. Maybe he wasn't the guy, but I think that a black head coach could help a second-tier SEC team recruit some players.

Maybe y'all need to look for more of a Derek Dooley type.

Mullen >>> Dooley.

Since Dooley first came to Tennessee, Mullen went 9-4 while Dooley went 6-7. This year both teams sit at 3-4 (0-4).

Dooley is coaching at one of the "Big 6" schools while Mullen is coaching at a school that is normally a bottom feeder.

Mullen has done a lot more than Dooley with a lot less to work with.

Just throw some names out there. Even throw one out there you don't even know his name. And Rich Rod?

State just fire Mullen now and go after those guys especially if we get to 6 wins this year. That would be will smart. State firing a winning coach in football.

ya why Chad Morris?

He's basically same thing as Mullen, runs the spread no huddle, isn't as nearly as accomplished (as in he hasn't coached nearly as long and I don't think he is a better Recruiter than Mullen)

He's been at Tulsa for what a year or 2 and now is doing very well with a Spread from guys Dabo Recruited.

Yea that would look bad for future hires considering our level of success in the past decade.

Can't have our cake and eat it too. Not even close to being that good yet

like you said Morris has done less than Mullen in college football.

However, it should be noted that prior to the Miss St. job Mullen had never been a HC at any level while Morris had.

ESP when we're likely to go to back to back bowls for the 1st time in a decade.

Because he's been a head coach at a High School?

I think he's a great Coordinator, but don't see him in the SEC just yet (well maybe somewhere like Kentucky?)

If Mullen and Morris were both still OC's it would be something to consider.

I agree with you. I think he (like his QB) need to prove themselves again next yr.
