A 6 win season is a solid year for Miss St.

Mullen sold them on something he can't deliver.

and what's that? A national championship?

He has delivered something else, excitement. Sure many may be disappointed about this year but any rational State fan will be more than happy to get to 6 wins this year after our Oline problems. I can also guarantee that if we beat Ole miss for that 6th win or better, everything will back to good times for that type of State fan.

Next year shouldn't be much different and let's see how the fans take it.

Again, all will be forgotten if we get to 6 wins and beat ole miss. I know how most of our fan base will be. Even if we went 6-7 or 7-6 the next two years, Mullen will be fine.

Also, spare us how you think USC did it and remained calmed and all that other bullshite. The only reason you won the East is b/c UGA/UF/Tenn were down off their typical years and you have Vandy and Kent in your division.

Just curious, what do you guys think Mississippi State football fans should expect and want from their football program? I am a realist an know how difficult it is playing and recruiting against LSU and Alabama. Just curious what yalls expectations would be for wins and recruiting year to year for Dan Mullen or whoever is our Head Football Coach.

I do not know what you are expecting but to build your program it is a two step process. You can look at Spurrier, Saben, Miles, and others. First you play some decent non conference opponents and get to where you can beat their asses and that will get you enough talent to start the second level of competing against the contenders in the SEC routinely. This is not a LSU secret but seems to be a good formula anywhere in the SEC
As for talent, the Big 10 and Big 12 suck and premier players in their areas are starting to come south to get on a better stage more and more.

Just saying. Dan is about as good of a coach as we can have.

I'm happy with a bowl every year, and expect a bowl every year with and occasional 8+ win season and a run at the west once every 5-8 years.

The steps to us becoming a better program and better recruiting go like this IMO.

1. Become the top university in the state (athletic wise). This includes beating OM regularly and pulling most of the instate talent. We have done well in this area, just need to close on a few more top instate players. We need to establish ourselves as the premier instate university.

2. Win with what we have - We aren't starting out with top talent, so we must win with what talent we have, wins=better recruiting over time. Not just one random winning season, but consistent winning seasons. WE make a bowl this year and win it, and we are on the way to doing this.

3. Upgrade facilities - Top players want top facilities, ours need to be on par with the rest of the SEC. We have plans to upgrade some things and expand the stadium which is a good start. Also money is needed and donations will come if steps one and two are established. Happy boosters and alumni mean more money for upgrades.

4. Once the first three steps are completed, and we start pulling in more top talent, then we need Good Coaching at the position coaches to form these top players into NFL caliber players. More players drafted, more recruits we get. It also takes more money to hire these coaches, so the previous steps must first be established so boosters will donate.

5. Work with city council and make Starkville a more attractive place to go to college. The city has made great strides in the past 10 years and needs to continue to do so. We need more places to eat, shop, and nightlife especially.

It all comes down to money and what are us state fans willing to spend to make our program better. There have been alot of strides made these past few years and I hope it continues

I'm willing to do the same. I'm pretty shallow and empty inside anyway. Wouldn't be that big of a loss.

7-5 bowl game every year, State should out recruit Ole Mrs and Southern Miss.

Southern Miss sucks at recruiting. They very rarely beat out State or OM for a recruit

6 win team on average per decade with an occasional 8 win team thrown in. I said before the year and I stand by it...Mullen is nothing more than a glorified cheerleader who sold y'all on bullshite created by Tebow. Not to mention he's a cocky a-hole who I'm enjoying see fail. Never had anything against MSU and still don't, but your HBC can eat a dick.

Who do you think we could have hired better????

You can ask any State fan and none will say Mullen has failed.

You have no idea how bad things were when he inherited Croom left us

State has shown the ability to win the west, hire good coaches, and compete.

Keep Mullen - he's a good coach and will keep y'all competing.

He seems to have a want to be successful at State, and not use y'all for a stepping stone.

I like the guy, and I like y'alls program. I'm disappointed in it this year from a win / loss calculation, but y'all are VERY close to going from a decent team to a good team.

PS - y'all are relevant. Ole Miss is not.

I don't honestly know what the right coach for y'all is. Has Dan Mullen left the place better than what he found it? Sure...but when you run your mouth and cause as much waves as much as he has, you damn sure need to back it up a whole hell of a lot more than he has. To me, he's nothing more than a j.v. Kiffen. Maybe y'all need to look for more of a Derek Dooley type.

right now:

compete for the 3rd or 4th spot in the West. Make a bowl game almost every year. Win more than you lose in the East.

As far as histrionics, Dooley and Mullen are on the same level.

I think Dooley is a good coach. Our administration didn't.

Mullen is a good coach. You need a top notch recruiter that can sell ice cubes to eskimos. Once you get some momentum you get more. Kinda like the rich get richer thing.

Hell, the scariest thing that I have heard at LSU is their recruiting coordinator is being considered for the HC at Tulane. He has done a phenomenal job and in my mind is a cornerstone of the program.

Explain.

Unless you know something I don't, and Dan literally shits on his dinner plate then you're right. He's never bad mouthed MSU in any way. He hasn't given Stricklin an HJ as far as I know.

Maybe you meant he's a Ween fan?
