Sure Saban could fall in love with Bama and stay there for the remainder of his career. But how probable do you think that is? How often do coaches stay at one place when better, more lucrative deals are out there for them?

There are schools who pay their basketball coach more than you have your football coach.

We are paying a guy, with a show-cause on him, $2.2 mill. a year. I am sure he has performance bonuses on top of that. You can bet your fanny that he will get a raise as success comes. If he has success, and another school comes after him, we will match it. Just see how our entire football staff ranks, nationally, over the last 5 years. It is top 5, if not the highest paid. Our softball coach, who is arguably the best coach in the nation, got a huge raise to leave Arizona State. Our baseball coach got a huge raise to leave Oklahoma. Facts are facts and "what if's" are "what if's".

Are you trying to compare Bama football to Auburn Basketball?

Really?

Alabama's football coach and Auburn's Basketball coach aren't in the same universe in terms of pedigree.

No. I'm saying I've heard all this shite before and it was from the rest of the SEC when Bama knocked it outa the park with Saban. Are the situations similar? Not really. The discourse is eerily similar IMO.

I'm not talking about the staff, I'm talking about the HC. Auburn is not a school that is going to pay the basketball coach more than the football coach.

You're football coach was 11th in the SEC, 32nd nationally with at 2.44 mil. He has been bumped to 3.85 next year which isn't close to the highest salary in the SEC...

All I'm saying is that IF Pearl lives up to expectations, other more prominent programs will come calling. It would be ridiculous to think otherwise. Maybe Pearl turns them down because he loves the plains, maybe he only cares about money and y'all shell it out to keep him.

It's a great hire. For Pearl and AU. One gets to build back his reputation, one gets an elite coach. I'd be happy for any time he is coaching and if he leaves he leaves, but to think he won't have a reason to is disingenuous.

Auburn should have built a huge palace like the "blue bloods" at Duke, right?

I would find it hilarious if Texas fired Rick Barnes and decided to go after Pearl

Yes, lets compare to Duke.

Since Auburn has all the money in the world, why didn't they go after Coach K and top his $7,233,976 salary paid by Duke?

Older information but close to current:
NOTE: Performances bonuses are not reflected in these figures.

1.) John Calipari, Kentucky: $4.2 million through 2018-19 *
2.) Billy Donovan, Florida: $3.5 million through 2015-16
3.) Mike Anderson, Arkansas: $2.2 million through 2017-18
4.) Kevin Stallings, Vanderbilt: $2.1 million through ??? **
5.) Anthony Grant, Alabama: $1.9 million through 2018-19 ***
Frank Martin, South Carolina: $1.9 million through 2016-17
7.) Mark Fox, Georgia: $1.7 million through 2015-16
8.) Frank Haith, Missouri: $1.6 million through 2015-16 ****
9.) Tony Barbee, Auburn: $1.5 million through 2016-17
10.) Cuonzo Martin, Tennessee: $1.3 million through 2015-16
Andy Kennedy, Ole Miss: $1.3 million through 2014-15 *****
12.) Johnny Jones, LSU: $1.1 million through 2016-17
13.) Billy Kennedy, Texas A&M: $1.0 million through 2015-16
Rick Ray, Mississippi State: $1.0 million through 2015-16

My post was in response to the person who pointed out that Auburn's new arena was sub-par because it only sat 9,000.

It Took Cali-mari, Roy Williams and Bill Self 2-4 years to turn their respective basketball power houses around where Basketball is number 1,2 and 3.
I am curious as to why people think that Bruce Pearl will be immediately so successful at Auburn, and that they will all the sudden contend for Championships?

Anyone with half a brain realizes that we won't be competing for Championships "all of a sudden". I don't think it's unrealistic to believe that he automatically makes us better because he's a lot better coach than we've had in a long time.

How is Pearl going to do with a team that is loosing 3/5 (going off roster from rivals) of their starters for a University that has proven to not support and/or hesitate on hitting the eject button on coaches after a mediocre season?

Next year will still probably be rough. Again, I don't think anyone expects a 180 that quick.

I remember a time when every game was packed. It's been a long time, but it did happen. I think people will show up if there's a good product to watch.

What basketball coach have we been quick to fire? I think Lebo and Barbee got enough time to turn it around.

IF that happens, and he leaves, it proves to other quality coaches that you can have success at Auburn. That is a win for us. IF he has success, and stays, that is a win for us. IF he can't build the program up, it proves we can't be successful at basketball. There is absolutely nothing but win, for Auburn, in all of this.
