You and the rest of the sports world have vastly different definitions of decent.

That winning percentage in the average length season comes out to a 21-9 season which by today's standard is only "decent".

BP has 462 career wins over 19 seasons and 145 losses. That is 24 wins and 7.6 losses a year. I'll take it.

He's one of the most consistently successful coaches in recent memory. Not hard to figure out. Nothing is automatic but it's a good hire if you want to maximize the chances of improving your basketball team.

The winning % is better than decent and the sec was better than it is now when he was at Tennessee and he scheduled very difficult non conference games

Pearl is personable, Barbee was not. Pearl will add excitement into the program, Barbee did not. Pearl has a better resume than Barbee did. Pearl has had success in the SEC, Barbee did not. There are plenty more, shall I continue?

This is important. Losing is bad enough. Losing with a boring, lame style of play which is absolutely inept is unbearable. At the least, Bruce brings an entertainment factor.

I don't think anyone honestly believes he will be immediately successful at a place like Auburn. It will take him about 5 years to get things turned around. His recruiting ban doesn't help.

How long will it take Bert to turn it around?

Bucc there are so many flaws in your post

quote:

He can coach circles around Calipari

This is just hilariously wrong or he wouldn't have lost to Calipari so many damn times.

quote:

The state of Alabama is vastly underrated basketball talent wise.

No it isn't. This state produces very little talent.

quote:

dd to that one of the most rich states talent wise in the South (Tennessee) borders this state and the flagship of that school he used to coach at.

Pearl didn't really recruit the state of Tennessee well at all. Doesn't help that the 3 major AAU teams in Memphis are Nike and Adidas sponsored.

quote:

3. The SEC is pretty much up for grabs other than 2 SEC East teams. Auburn is in the SEC West, Pearl can have AU winning the East in at least a year if I had to bet on it.

Oh Bucc

Solid basketball coach.

But I'm glad he never got under consideration at my school after reading this.

He's a great hire for AU, but I truly believe this is just a stepping stone for him to get back in the game. Once the big basketball schools feel comfortable with him being clean, he gone.

Have you seen AU basketball lately? It's been damn near unwatchable. At one point I was convinced we were dreaming up ways to lose and then doing everything we could to make those dreams come true. I guarantee you that if AU is leading Florida with a few seconds to go, Pearl won't have our team intentionally foul them and allow them to tie the game at the line, just so we can take the last shot.

The program has had no life in years. Hiring Pearl adds life and excitement to the program, which is what it needs if it ever hopes to get things turned around.

I don't understand how Auburn could not be successful with Pearl, especially given their new arena and a lot of available basketball talent is close proximity to Auburn. If Florida can do it, why not Auburn?

Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Kansas, UCLA, Indiana, Georgetown, Maryland, Syracuse, Arizona, etc.

Duke, UNC, Cuse all have coaches getting up there in age.

Maryland, UCLA, and Arizona have fairly recent coaching changes.

Kentucky and Indiana may be getting tired of their coaches.

Georgetown isn't going to come open anytime soon.

So not really that many. And not a lot of turnover in comparison to other schools.

He may use it as a stepping stone, but ability to step is limited in two ways.

Ultimately its basketball. if you are in a major conference getting paid towards the top of the mark, youve somewhat plateaued unless the stars align

I think Roy Williams could coach for at least another 6+ years.

I don't see Boeheim (69) or K (67) going much longer.

I feel like K will have a big influence on his heir, and no way will that be Pearl. So will Boeheim since he built 'Cuse from an independent. Just like Calhoun picked his heir at UConn.

No way Pearl gets considered for any of those schools.
