Our O-line and RB were "unproven" going into last year...
Dak is an extreme threat when he gets outside the pocket. The called run game doesn't have to be as strong as you think. They'll get their short gains. The big yards will come from down field passes and Dak scrambling. You don't have to have an outstanding OL with a QB like Dak. They need to do their job and we'll have a solid shot at 9 wins. 8-5 is my prediction.

His 3 returning starters at WR averaged 14.5, 16.3, and 16.6 yards per catch last season.
Phil Steele looks at game 1 starters, Jameon Lewis is one of those and basically didn't play last season. He also isn't counting Will Redmond, who is Mel Kiper's top senior CB, or Chris Jones, who is a preseason All-American. I feel better heading into this season than I did last, we had unexpected guys step up. Nobody saw Beckwith or Smith as being able to even fill the gaps, much less be outstanding players.
We are replacing players with higher talent players, and will still have a more experienced lineup than damn near anyone else. Since you probably haven't looked at those numbers, currently it looks like we will have 10 senior starters and 12 junior starters this season, almost all of whom redshirted. We are second in the conference when you look at the returning number of snaps played.
I get that it's odd, because the whole "development" approach isn't something a lot of teams do. The point we are all trying to get across is that "returning starters" is much less important when your coach generally only starts Juniors and Seniors. Literally every year we are going to lose a lot of starters. Hell he redshirted like 20 guys last year in a time where most coaches are trying not to redshirt. It's a different approach, we will see if it's stable.
Now you can continue making the argument that the second string guys would have been starters if they were better than the first. Or you can look at the hard fact that Will Redmond, Chris Jones, and Fred Ross were all better than the guy ahead of them last year, and weren't "starters". But who was on the field when it counted? Who made the game winning interceptions against LSU and Arkansas? Will Redmond. Who batted the pass on Auburns last drive, causing an INT? Chris Jones. These were the guys in when it counted, regardless of who got the "start".

Yeah, and last year MSU was one of the biggest surprises in college football. Like I said, if RBs and Oline exceed expectations, who knows what will happen. If you want to bank on doing it two years in a row, I'm all for positivity.

I just don't think passing will be as easy when you don't have Robinson averaging 130 yds/game over the first half of the year. But then you probably have some sort of positive spin on that as well.

Multiple 4* recruits that have been in the system for multiple years. No more of a "spin" than anyone else replacing a starter.

This thread makes me wish we had played Auburn earlier in the year last season when their ranking was overinflated. I would have liked to spend some time at #1.

Most of his carries were OM, Vandy, and Bama IIRC. The Vandy one is kind of a push because, while they do suck, everyone also knew he was getting the ball between the tackles every down.

He did have some good yardage against us but I remember most of it being late in the game where we gave up short yardage to prevent the deep ball.
82 of his yards came on 4 carries against UTMartin. He had 1 carry against Bama for zero yards(you remembered that incorrectly). His highest load game was against Vandy with 14 carries for 57 yards.

Yeah just looked it up. On the other hand, Robinson, who he's replacing, sucked it up against good competition. He didn't do so well against OM, Bama, GT, and Arkansas. And Shump saw a lot of time pass blocking because he's much better at it than Robinson. So it's not easy to compare and make a verdict, but I think he will be at least serviceable. And if he isn't, Lee or Williams will be.
Dak having 3 elite WR'a is definitely going to help ease the RB's job too.
