I would say that many of the teams listed are contenders for the natty, but may not be a contender for the conference crown. Thinking of some of the recent LSU teams and what they have done late in seasons. The SEC plays some serious fricking baseball.
Last year, same weekend SC got swept by Arky this year, SC got swept up at Kentucky last year .... and still found their way back into the national championship series by beating Arkansas in a double-header in the semi-finals.
Gotta love the pig OP though ... give the arkie fans pts for being consistent if nothing else.

USC is a contender; maybe not for SEc champs, but for Omaha which is the goal. I think its possible Florida pulls an LSU 2008 and goes on a tear.
Arky will most definitely compete to the last series for SEC champs and their schedule sets up very nicely for them. Their fielding is sure iffy tho and it may cost them a couple of big games.
State is just snakebite right now.

Any SEC team that finishes above .500 in conference play, I wouldn't want to see in my regional if I were well regarded team this year.

South Carolina fans have to admit that reputation is a double-edged sword. The skipper that led that impressive stretch is not in the dugout anymore. So one could very easily say that that era is over because the architect isn't there any more, right?
That's one way of looking at it I suppose.
The other way of looking at it could be that Chad Holbrook, our current HC, was at UNC before Ray Tanner hired him down here. And while at UNC he took them, as an assistant coach, to the CWS four consecutive years ... they've not been back since.
And it could be argued that, while SC had a long history dating back to the 70s of going to the CWS and even playing for the title .... we did not win our first CWS until Holbrook arrived as an assistant.
It could be argued that way.
It could be argued that SC has been one of the most consistent college baseball programs in the country since the 60s ... and the winningest, or second winningest, (I'm not sure which), baseball program in the country since the turn of the new millennium.
It could be argued that way.
It could be argued that SC has had a total of four baseball coaches in the past fifty years if you include Holbrook in his first year here now, and that all three before Holbrook took SC to Omaha and played for national championships ... and that is a model of stability. (While Holbrook has done it with two teams, 2 x UNC and 2 x USC, as an assistant).
It could be argued that way.
Of course, none of us are going to argue it that way because all we care about are hosting regionals, super regionals and going to Omaha with for a chance to win the whole shootin' match.

It is a pet peeve of mine when people do that. A lot of things can change. Well, how about I just send you a newspaper with the standings in it when it is over. I figure most people come on a message board because they want to talk about current and future happenings and whether the double rainbow MEANS anything, no?
Ill say this, I have a good feeling about our schedule in the month of April.
We got a very good Vandy team coming in this weekend and Swayze will be rocking. Then next weekend should be huge too with our spring game being saturday as well as playing Bama. We follow that with away series at UT then home vs UK.

This. This baseball team has been completely shitting down their legs the past few weeks. Our two best pitchers have become complete head cases and can't make it out of the first inning for walking people. Cohen routinely makes dumbass decisions that cost games, and our situational hitting is complete shite.
It is some of the most frustrating shite I have ever seen watching this team. We continue to outhit and largely outpitch (ERA) our opponents but continue to lose on the scoreboard due to walks and shitty situational hitting/baserunning. We lead the nation in starts where the pitcher doesn't make it out of the first inning. We have lost a few games where we did not give up a single run after the first inning. shite is just ridiculous.

If you aren't smart enough to understand why it was phrased that way, you should probably shut your condescending, whore mouth.

What has SCar done so far to deserve being in the contender category?
You seemed to think your cocks should be there?

If we're so bad, what makes the Hogs deserve to be up there? Series wins over the lowly Cocks and Grinders? Not to mention your shite start OOC. That just goes away?

We are showing signs of life, but I don't see us being world beaters just yet. Hopefully we can continue to improve all season and play the spoiler role a little...and fingers crossed we get most of our class on campus in the fall.

Our ace pitcher Jordan Montgomery is out indefinitely but I've heard he's scheduled to be back in 3-4 weeks. Once he's back in our starting rotation we will be contenders again.
Not sure where you're getting your info from, Montgomery might be pitching from the pen this weekend against the Vols if everything works out during the week.

First, OOC has shite to do with winning the SEC.
Arkansas swept you, at home. Arkansas scored over 20 runs in the series, while you were under 10 runs scored. SCar is in the bottom half in pitching and hitting in SEC play.
So, you are saying that as of now in conference play that SCar has shown they can win the conference title?

Actually I said nothing of the sort. Just wanted to stir some shite up. I could give a frick less what you think we are. And in baseball, I never have any clue what we are. We always seem to start this way, everyone doubts us, and then we lock shite down.
So why argue it?

But that doesn't mean we're contenders. I'm okay with being in the 'too early to tell' category. I'm confident we'll have it together and will be playing solid ball when it really counts later in the year. Right now we haven't proved we're contenders but we certainly aren't pretenders.

if turner was still coaching them i would agree big time; that dude always started slow and then became awesome. giving the new guy the benefit of the doubt i would say maybe they are a contender.

In years past you have had one of the two in the top half o the league though, either pitching or hitting.
